How much have YOU spent on this Hobby!

well none of ya cant complain about the amount spent atleast you enjoyed spending it and it wasnt on drugs or some other dum stuff

I am in denial and refuse to think about it.

I have been in saltwater off and on since the early 80s. It is staggering how much money I have literally poured down the drain.

In the past year, on my system, I have spent enough for two, nice 2-week diving vacations, for two, in Bonaire! :squigglemouth:

What was I thinking?!?!

:cry_002:

Well, my setup is fairly cheap compared to most but the way I see it. If I took up golf instead I would spend about the same amount on a set of clubs that I spent to set up my 55 with mostly used equip. Then I would spend 40 bucks a week to play a round at the links. As I stand now I spend about 5 bucks a week for a water change and I trade for most of my corals. So....As I tell my wife...it is a relatively cheap hobby!

I got into the saltwater hobby about 12 years ago. I would guess somewhere in the ballpark of $300,000. I would not be suprised if it isn't a lot more. For a big part of it I was single and making about 75,000 a year and I know half my income was going to the local fish store. When I got married I set up a shop and I do not even want to look back at how much that put me in debt. I know for sure I lost over $80,000 during the three and a half years that was going. I am still paying down that debt. Sold the harley, sold the boat and almost lost my family and my job. It really is sad when I think about all the things I gave up chasing a dream. Was it worth it.....NO. Did I learn from it and am I a better person because of it? Yes. Do I regret it? No. I actually wish I would of stuck it out just a bit longer. Things changed six months after I got out of the livestock business. People actually started spending money again.

I'm on the crazy side. I first set up my 225 gal tank in June and have spent 40K on it.

If I kept track i would probably not be in the hobby :)

Agreed, especially since my new love of photography was developed because of the marine hobby ;)

LOL!! Glad to have someone else share the "misery." Two expensive hobbies tied together is a horrible addiction.

But, dang it's fun. ;)
