It depends on the tank! I will say either not enough and I like my aquarium tongues/long gloves or my puffer would say…

I really try to keep it to a minimum. I work in a job that I am exposed to all sorts of nasty. So I won't even work on my tanks unless I had a shower. Even then I have to make sure I do not have any soaps creams, lotions on my hands/arms. Even with tongs, etc. I wash them and rinse with RODI before use. In our house we use a lot of "natural" products, but that does not mean they are natural to my tanks environment.

I'd say once a week, if that. I find the more you set yourself up for success and keep your hands out, the healthier the reef.
