How often do you check ...

I try to check temp daily
i test salinity and ALK weekly
- Ca and Mg about monthly
don't test anything else ever

I test at least every other day, might be tmi but I test it while I am on the throne in the morning :)

haha i might start doign that lol

but i try and check once a week but sometimes get lazy.. but always check before and after water change

I rarely check mine. I might do it every couple months. I have so much going on this time of the yr I fall back to letting the corals lmk if sumthin is wrong

I try to do it once a week....But if the corals and clams are looking top notch then I can let it go a bit.....I try to do it once a week though for Ca and alk cause of te clams...

I test Alk-Cal-Mag-Salinity weekly before weekly water changes, I have found that if I keep with weekly water changes I dont have to dose as much as often and my H2o stays very consistent. I have in the past used the drive by test (look as I walk by) and if it was looking good than forget about it, the things is I wasn't doing H2o changes either and as the H2o went down hill my SPS wouldn't show until the alk was around 4 so no more of that....

I check my calcium reactor drip every few days. The main way I keep an eye out i a pink and blue tipped prostrata that I have. If the blue tips start turning pale and white then I know my levels are out of wack.

I suggest testing often, but once you know your system then you can start to tell without tests when something is going wrong.

It was about once every 2 weeks, but now for the last 6 weeks I went to a automated daily WC instead of 1 large 1 every 4 weeks so I have been checking PH and Alk 2 times a week, CA once a week and Mg every 4 weeks until I feel comfortable with how my 3qts aday WC is going.

I haven't tested a single thing in well over 2 years. I just look at my corals to tell me if something may be off

I took some of the comments randomly ...

I probably check around once a month... I use the corals as my test kits!!!

Thats basically where I am at?.My 180 is almost up for 4 yrs and hardly checked the parameters only watching temp and Salinity when I do waterchanges..

I got lazy too. Lately I noticed my sps growth was a bit slower the usual. I decided to run the tests tonight and got ALK 8 Mg 1100 and CA 330, so guess I gotta bump up my daily dosing....

Nice to know that you observe your corals and do the test.. Hope all is working everything out ...

I rarely check them nowadays as long as I do my weekly water changes.

Interesting...
I check them every Saturday.

Can you do it Sunday instead? :)

Every week, thats just me though
Jose can you provide information on why you do it?.. Is it because you just like doing it or because of those LE corals :)

Wow

I myself have a huge clam maybe 9-10" or so and on my 180 I dose more calcium than alk..

alk 2 times a week, the rest more or less once or twice every two weeks

Interesting as well? is it because of those chalices? more info Vic

once a week, before I do my water change.
Why do it before and not after?

Kev 2 years wow...

Thank you for the input guys and wanted to read more interesting thoughts about this subj.

It varies. If something is off, once a week or more. Usually much less often, once a month or 2.

Yup, no lie..I hate testing :-)

I used to check ~ every 5 days or so.

Now with Sierra, I haven't checked it in 2 months :(
The tank has never looked better though - so I usually go by that first.

I check alk every other day and now that I'm a ZEOhead, I've been testing other levels for the first time in years 1smile1

I test ALK every few days, as I find myself have to dose fairly regularly (no reactor), and I would rather do a little frequently than a lot all at once. Calcium in my tank has always been high, so I finally stopped bothering to check it, and I hardly ever check magnesium. When things don't look good, I usually hit ALK and iodine tests first off. I do weekly water changes, as I've found this aleviates many of the issues in a non automated system.
