I feed with Rods every other day, everything in my tank loves it!I do not notice a change in the chems altho I do frequent water changes so that I do not have to fork out alot of money for the tests and cures for all that can go wrong.I also alternate mornings and evening feedings so that all of the coral has a good chance of getting fed.Just my 2 cents worth.

Nice info thanks for sharing :) my fish as well LOVE rods food. I would say test kits are WELL worth there wait in gold thou. Helps you figure stuff out BEFORE it goes bad!

The fish get fed at least once a day...sometimes more, if I am off work...the corals get target fed at least once a week...phosphate levels remain at 0, nitrates at close to zero...corals and clams seem to keep everything right were I want them...growth is good and so is color...go figure...I also do at least biweekly water changes...

IMO test kits are wonderful when you start up,with that said,I watch my tank each day,do my regular water changes, but if something seems a little off then I grab for the testing supplies. But Since I have done regular water changes,10% every 7- 10 days,I have lost nothing and everything is thriving.I keep records in a note book on water changes, bulbs, and the whole thing in general just for my own peace of mind.

I completely agree unless you have a well stocked SPS tank

I feed my LPS 3-4 times a week my SPS 2-3 times a week my fish 5-6 days a week

Yes You need to have test kits on hand if you have a reef. But if doing SPS you need to use them more :)

O i totally agree, sps are so picky, if i was doing sps my test would be way more often then now! Great tip coral88! I think people undervaule test kits

well the lfs figures the more you feed the more you'll buy... ha and phil glad to see you recovered the Rod's

First of all, I don't feed my fish. I feed my corals weekly. The Curly Que anemone gets feed twice a week. The Goliath spiny brittle star gets feed three times weekly, and the red serpent star the same. The algea can feind for itself, its like the Alamo down here. The razor blade, the tooth brush, and me can't hold back the green for much longer! I just use those strip test kits as much as that goes.

Why dont u feed ur fish, i have never heard that before

Fish - 5 Chromis, 1 CBB, 2 False Percula Clowns, Sand Sifting Goby, Lawnmower Blenny
5 days/wk: Pellets, Cyclop-eeze, 2 cubes mysis soaked in Kent Zoe, Phyto-Feast, Roti-Feast, Arcti-Pods
2 days/wk: Pellets, 1 clam on a halfshell, 1 cube mysis/some krill/1 silverside soaked in Zoecon/Marine-C
Corals - Gorgonian, Acan, Dendrophyllia, Flower Tree, Ricordea, Zoos, Xenia
I target feed the Dendros everyday with a cube of mysis soaked in all the liquid foods.
4 days/week: A mixture of all the liquid foods and target feed the ones that need it.

Well I am probably the heaviest feeder any of you will hear from.

First let me describe the system a little. 225G display with 30G sump and 4G(I know too small) fuge with PO4 reactor running rowaphos.

FISH: Purple, Yellow, Sailfin, and Orange Shoulder tang; Foxface, 8 or 9 Chromis, 1 firefish, 1 Pair GSM(very large female), 1 Black occ, royal gramma, yellow damsel, yellow belly blue damsel, flame angel, purple pseudo, 6-line, and new CBB and 2 purple queen anthias.

CORAL: TONS of LPS, softies, and a few SPS.

I feed fish at least twice per day. Occasionally I feed them up to 4 times depending on if I am home. I use flake, pellets, nori, brine shrimp, a homemade mixture, and recently started with some Rod's. I use it mainly to feed the corals right after lights out.

I feed the corals 1-3 times a week usually right after lights out. I will take a chunk of the stuff I made, a chunk of the Rod's and maybe a cube of brine, add a small amount of garlic additive and mix in tank water. When fully thawed I squirt a little from the baster into the tank to allow all corals to "smell" food in hte water and open. Then I start spraying in different areas. Especially concentrating on the 2 Sun corals. fish get what they can, corals get what they can, and CUC gets whatever is left.

Nice i some times feed more then once if i member to, as long as they eat it ill keep feeding i guess! lol, my fish are really fat haha they need the atkins diet!

i feed my fish 3 times a week. and i feed my corals 1-2 times per week.
I always feed the fish and shrimp first so they dont steal all the food from the corals.

i have always kept a VERY light fish load. i figure my goal is near perfect water and i dont want a bunch of waste messing it up. although i do agree with the haveing some phos is a good thing. I used to go out of my way to keep everything perfect all the time. i had all sort of problems. then i backed off the water changes and everything has been going perfect since.

elite how often do you do water changes and how much %

Well on my retail tanks it is all over the road. I remove an average of 50 gallons a week for shipments and I make up the rest twice a month. I move those numbers up and down depending on how many orders I have. I keep the water in the selling tanks as pure as possible because some people test the water when they get it and I want to make sure it looks good.

In my personal tanks however I only change around 25% every few months. I don’t add any supplements. I feel that if you build your system simple and smart you can create a self contained eco system that is very well balanced and needs very little tending to. I am a firm believer in the keep it smart simple stupid method of reef keeping.

Too many people buy all kinds of machines and supplements and start adding all sorts of crap and they have nothing but problems. Most of the nicest reefs in the hobby you will notice have rather simple system with smart husbandry.

Cool i do a 20% every 2 months and i dont add anything(maybe some calcium every now and then) other then that nothing. So far so good!

CA is the one supplement I will say that I find is necessary in many tanks if you want good growth. Especially the tanks with heavy sps and lps. Simple water changes will not keep up. They will live but growth will be slow without it.
