How to kill a monti without altering water chemistry?

Kalk paste isn’t going to alter your chem much, if any. I use it to kill huge patches of palys and alk is the same. Don’t worry about it and overthink it. Break off as much as you can and then Kalk the rest.

It's about 10" x 4", hard to tell from that pic. That's a lot of kalk paste. I rather not risk it.

LOL - If I didn't have other montis in there, I probably would. I really hate this thing man. And what's up man! Didn't know you were on R2R too :)
Yes, started to get more comfortable with r2r, gotta reach outside of Atlanta a little.

I would take the whole piece. Deprive it of light and FLOW and it will bleach and die off

I get that; so why can't you break off as much as you can and then kalk it? or kalk parts at a time. I do multiple 6-8+" sections of palys in my tank at a time. Nothing swings.

Are you able to break the whole colony off? I'd definitely take it, I've been wanting a plating montipora for some time now haha

I feel your pain. I have a few problematic monti's in my tank. Love the look but wow, what a pain when they encrust. I've mostly kept them in check by gluing faster growing SPS next to them to both act as a barrier and eventually shade them out.

Where are you in GA? I'm in Stone Mountain. I'm going to try to remove as much as I can this weekend then try to cover the rest. I can't remove the entire thing due to where it's placed. I would have to rip out at least 3 different colonies of corals just to get to it because its on the underside.

I put them low also, they are close to the sandbed, but in the past few months, they started to grow up towards my acros and are stinging them. They are winning the fight too.

Put a torch coral on it. Or, break as much out as you can and use some reef weld on the rest. Reef weld is plastic.

I'm in Carrollton, Georgia. Like an hour from you.
