Besides water changes, which i have done a few of and noticed no effects, how else can i lower nitrates? Will adding more ammonia or beneficial bacteria have effects on this? also, i have some bio balls in my filter, are those what are preventing my nitrate level from going down?

What’s your phosphates and nitrates?

Make your own nopox search for diy nopox, you have a skimmer?
how old is the tank

I dont think i'm going to do the dosing, but will stuff like more beneficial bacteria or changing out the bio balls help with lowering the nitrates?

Nitrate concentration is directly related to water capacity.
I am not a favor of big drops in No3 since I did a 50% WC once and seems to have caused me weeks of issues.
A 10% WC will drop your No3 by 5ppm. A 20% WC will drop it by 10ppm

I just dropped my No3 from 60ppm to 40ppm over a number of days with 2x 20% WC.
On a small tank I think weekly WC are the go.
