How to raise salary with brine?

A good way to raise salinity is using same salinity water for top off instead of r.o. every other day or so would be my preferred way depending on volume

I've seen it "doesn't " matter also, but per manufacturer instructions im incorrect.

The .002 is within spec but its so consistent of a .002 difference i believe its actually a .002 off, I will be testing on a third platform today, with a floating hydrometer (I believe thats the correct name) but even that could be interpretation of the eye.

And I guess the difference isn't the biggest question, but is it better to stay at a lower salinity (1.024) or aim for a higher salinity @ 1.026(wich is where I've always been or wanted to be at)

Years ago I only used the swing hydrometers, Jeez I bet my salinity was never where I wanted it, but new times and new ways have me in line better to be more correct, and I'd like to do it right.
If the floating hydrometer you are getting is a Tropic Marin High Precision Hydrometer, than all doubt as to what your salinity is will be resolved.

Reading it is pretty easy once you get the hang of. Just remember to ignore the meniscus and take the reading that matches the surface of the water. I read mine with a small LED flashlight and a magnifying glass from below the water level. You may not need the light and magnifying glass, I do at my age though, lol.

That is the one I have a large measuring cylinder to float it in.

Thank you for the information, I may need to break out the magnifying glass too

I understand, the manual is misleading when it states distilled water only. Someone from marketing got in the way of science.

My Milwaukee does have an offset of +0.002. As there is no way of adjusting it you just have to live with it.

So here's the dill pickles, now with the float hydrometer I have a third different measurement, which I was kinda expecting, but now what should I trust, I'd like to say the floating tropic marin, but what stops the paper from sliding up or down who knows thats spot on?

Milwaukee 1.028
Hanna 1.026
Tropic marin 1.027
Edit: I do see in pictures.now that the Milwaukee temperature correction is up from the hanna

If the Hanna is properly calibrated, I would trust it over the Milwaukee.

By coincidence, what your picture shows is exactly what my two instruments show :)

Of course at the end of the day, either is suitable as stability is more important than an absolute number.

Yeah both have fresh calibration the Milwaukee with good clean rodi. I really do trust the Hanna idk if the tropic marin wasn't a letter in a bottle id trust it more, but maybe just between those 2 is most accurate, I dont trust the Milwaukee thats why I started looking for more options in the first place.

That’s why I use the Hanna as well.

Sorry. I didn’t realize your question was five days old. Here’s my answer anyway.

In my 125, if I want to raise the salinity, I shut down my skimmer and my ATO, I remove 2 L of water from the tank, dump a half a cup of salt mix into the 2 L of water, mix well, and then drip it over a half hour or so back into the tank. Check the salinity level 15 minutes later. Repeat as necessary. Obviously if you have a smaller tank you use less salt.

From the photo, it looks like 1.0271, but that depends on where the water's surface lines up.

An easy way to test the accuracy of the TM is to order a second one and compare the two. I have done that test, both of TM units lined up to the same 0.0001 graduation.
