Help! I just nut in a sump, and bought a Hyper Flow 17hf for my 125 gallon tank. But this this is so loud, and I have no clue on quieting this pump?

Use flexible hose to connect it to the PVC and get it up off the glass.

I moved if off the glass, when I realized how loud it was. Will switching to flexible tubing make that big of difference? Most of the noise/rumble comes from the pump.

I'm not familiar with the pump so I can't say how loud it should be. However, I know I could tell the difference between my hard plumbed mag pump and when I switched it to flexible tubing. I'm not saying to completely eliminate the PVC. Just use a small piece of vinyl tubing go connect the pump to the PVC.

I added a small square of bubble mesh to rest the pump on. ;)

Its a win-win because it is now a pod nursery which goes straight into my tank.

I went back to the canister so I could cut and glue some adapters for a rubber hose. I'll try rubber hose, I did put some floss around the sump pump, thinking it would act as a sound barrier. Is there a pump out there that is well known for being silent? Thanks for all the help.

Tunze and Sicce Pumps are virtually silent. They are expensive but maybe worth it if you're bothered by the noise. I have a Tunze now for about a year and I love it. I've also hear Eheim Pumps are very quiet but I have never used them.

I've a mag 1800 and it's hard plumbed with no noise.
I got to stick my head in the stand to hear something.
The new Ecotech Vectra pumps are super quiet as I have one already running on my frags system, can't hear a thing.

Curiosity what's expensive? My house has hard wood, and any noise seems to heighten or echoes more.

Jebo pumps, previously Jabeo are pretty darn quiet and much cheaper than tunze or sicce, get the newest one (I think DCT series) and the impeller claims to be virtually maintenance free....not sure if it's true, but the new claim at least

Sometimes the noise is not coming from the pump itself but it is more a humming noise caused by vibration of the pump transmitted onto the glass.
Therefore I have my return pump sitting on one of those silicon pot holders you can get everywhere like at Target, Walmart etc. I got one with nobs at the bottom so the water can still run under the pot holder without collecting debris.
They absorb any vibration perfectly.

I would also put something between your sump and the tile it's sitting on. My red sea aquarium as the whole sump area lined in like a soft cushy sponge material.

I use these too.

I think i paid $150 for my tunze pump. I had used a Mag 7 before that. The mag wasn't loud but there was a noticeable difference to the Tunze. I don't regret spending the extra money on the Tunze. It seems to require less maintenance than my Mag Pumps in the past and the flow seems better than the Mag, despite the factory ratings being very similar. I have more noise from water movement than pump noise. The only pump that has noticeable noise output is the AquaClear 70 powerhead I used to keep detritus off the sump floor. That said, that AC70 is almost 15 years old.

The jabao dc pumps are absolutely quiet.
No noise from my dc9000
The most noise I hear is the overflow from the bubble trap :-)

Thank YOU everyone, I will try just about everything and see what come out there other side.

I've always put a short length of flex hose between the pump and hard plumbing to reduce vibration. Also a rubber pad under pump. The jebao dc6000 I have has little rubber feet and they work well enough. My tank is in living room and it is about the same noise as my Samsung fridge...
