Bubble mesh? Picture

You can get the sheets from your local LFS. I am pretty sure you can find them also at Petsmart.

I put a piece of phosphate absorbing pad under mine and a short piece of tubing connecting the pump to the pvc supply lines. I'm running a mag 18 and I can't hear it with the cabinet doors shut. Over the years I've had a eheim that was very quiet and a quiet one pump about thirty years ago that was almost silent.

I have a sicce syncra silent 5.0. It is as advertised and completely silent.

I went back to the canister so I could cut and glue some adapters for a rubber hose. I'll try rubber hose, I did put some floss around the sump pump, thinking it would act as a sound barrier. Is there a pump out there that is well known for being silent? Thanks for all the help.

heres a nice little review of three pumps. i own the waveline 10000ii (2nd gen). it is hard plumbed to the tank but i do use flex tube from the pump to the pvc. its almost silent. I have to turn everything in the room and the next room off to hear a slight rumble.

Jebo pumps, previously Jabeo are pretty darn quiet and much cheaper than tunze or sicce, get the newest one (I think DCT series) and the impeller claims to be virtually maintenance free....not sure if it's true, but the new claim at least
totally agree.jabeo pumps are very quit.

Waveline is super quiet I have 12000 and the water movement is louder then the pump

Update, this is what I've done so far, and I can't hear it over my octopus skimmer. Changed pvc to rubber hose and floss the crap out of it! All testing is showing perfect numbers!

there are so many ways to quiet down your pump but a good test to see just how quiet you can get it, is to put it in a 5 gallon bucket, turn it on and suspend it so its not touching anything, at that point that's almost the quietest you can get it. you can wrap it with a silicone mat thatll help quiet it down a bit further but some pumps are just loud. I like the jebeo pumps personally. absolutely silent unless you put your head right next to it and are listening for it. as for your skimmer being louder than your return pump now, do you have a silencer on the air intake?

I put several big rubber bands around my skimmer pump. Voila, it silent.

Just wondering, for those who put filter floss, sponge or bubble mesh in: do you have to remove it and clean it periodically to keep it from trapping detritus?

I don't do not anymore but I used to put filter media around the pump. Yes, you have to clean it periodically. Not as often as a filter sock or whatever, on the other side of the sump but they still get dirty.
