I need some advice I have a clean up crew and two clown fish in a 55 gallon tank now before that I had a damsel it lived a month and a half before I got rid of it so it wouldn't mess with the clown tank has been set up 6 months maybe but I have never noticed a ammonia spike or anything so is my tank cycled yet?

Only your persistent testing of your water conditions will tell you

So you have had fish in this tank for 6 months and you want to know if you are cycled? You're a bit off the reservation for typically recommended approaches to starting a tank. Fish go in after the cycle is complete.

My pH is around 8.0 last 4 days and adding prime and stability and pH adjuster but ever time I test it the ammonia nitrates and nitrites are all 0 I have a api saltwater test kit the last couple months I have never seen a spike on any of them
Well thanks icecube I must have missed something along the line somewhere I have done wastewater for 15 years I know the nitrogen cycle thanks when I first set it up I waited 4 weeks before adding fish and only added stability for bacteria had water tested and they said it was good to add fish I had one damsel die and two clown fish die in the first month of adding fish then added one damsel and it lived for a couple months but never detected ammonia in the tank

Your fish are dead because your tank isn't ready for fish. Did you do any research on starting and keeping a saltwater tank? You waited 4 weeks, but did you test for anything?

I tested the whole time never saw a spike in anything I have a little green algae and string algae on my rocks I have a emperor 400 and a rena filstar cannister filter for filtration I have what some call brown algae on the sand and glass at times
icecool2 you don't have to be a dick. Not everyone gets the best info when they start a saltwater tank. I have been to many LFS that the people working their don't have a clue or are seriously misinformed. You should be nicer to new people on here. The whole purpose of sites like this is to share knowledge not to talk down to people.

8lbs in a 55g tank is pretty light. You've been getting some pretty bad advice it seems. Read the article I posted. It has the info you need. You need a method for exporting nutrients (bacteria in live rock and sand, protein skimmer, water changes, etc.) and it sounds like you just have a basic filter and pretty minimal rock. Do you have sand?
