How would you run flow in a big peninsula tank?

I have 8 feet long peninsula tank. Water flow was one of my biggest fears and after a lot of investigation I ended up with 2 power heads (1 each side) at the "dead end". I have overflow in the middle of the short side and powerheads fit perfectly, I don't even see these pumps. I also have 1 gyro style pump at the short view panel.

For the pumps I picked a budget option and all of them are jebao. For gyro I use SCP-150 and for regular powerheads I use SOW8. All of them run at around 20% of power because anything more is too strong for any life form in my tank :)

People say Jebao is junk but I have only a success with them. I have 2 UV, return, 2 powerheads and gyro. Not a single failure in 2.5 years of service.

Beautiful tank!

Peninsula tanks are my favorite tanks. I have a mixed reef with 75% acros. My rule was no pumps on the viewing panels and I have sand. I use 5 powerheads, 2 MP40s & 3 Nero 5s. I also use 10X turn over from my return pump. All the pumps are on the overflow wall. The MP40s are on the sides of the overflow as well as 2 of the Nero 5s. The last Nero 5 is attached in the center of the overflow about 5” down & pumping a 100% pulse.

Ive found your aquascape is especially important in a peninsula (not that it isnt otherwise). Mine is horrible with a lot of dead spots on the front side - requiring wavemakers on the front and sides - Ohh nice cords lol.

I think where I've landed on this is that I'm going to try running the return up into the canopy with 4 outputs (2 on either side at halfway down the tank and 2 on the far end of the tank) coming out just under the waterline. I'm planning to have 2 Gyres on the back wall and may supplement with a couple of Sicce 10s (also on the back wall) if needed. If all else fails, a gyre on the eurobrace at the far end should do the trick, but I'm hoping to avoid that.

I have two MP60's on my overflow side and a Gyre XF 280 on the far side mounted under the euro brace. looks clean and moves a ton of water

Tank is 72x36x36

How is this going for you. Getting ready to setup a 82” long x 42” wide x 30” tall peninsula. Was planning to do a similar design. 2 MP60 on the top and 2 MP40 on the bottom from the overflow side and a Gyre on the far side. I was wondering how your fine sand handles all the flow? Also, are you finding many slow flow spots?

On my 96x36 (link below) I am using 3 closed loops. 2 above 1 below. Goal is zero glass mounted fan driven devices. Call me crazy but I’m going old school.

I have great flow everywhere with 2x MP40 on the far end and a little Nero 3 on the back wall.

I should also share I am going with Tampa Bay salt and rock.

So let's say a peninsula tank that's about 72" long x 30" wide x 24" tall... How would you run the flow in it? What pumps what placement? Keep in mind that you're planning to use all 3 viewing sides, so putting pumps on those sides will detract from viewability (so aim to keep all pumps on one end if possible). How would you set it up?
If it's going to have a sandbed is run my return line under the sand and have a couple of VFGs worked into the aquascape probably a pair of wave makers in the middle "suspended" aimed in each direction. I'd focus on getting the ones that rotate up and down rather than stationary.

Otherwise, I'd get a second return pump (probably 2100+ gph), hide it in the rockwork and plumb a pair of 1" VFGs each direction and put a rotating wave maker on the non-viewing end.

I just realized this was a resurrected thread from 2 years ago.

Works great having a Nero 5 inside my overflow, magnet in a ziplock bag with overflow water gently trickling over it.
