Review- Out of the box the unit feels nice, not over the top quality but it doesn't feel like a cheap piece of equipment. Included in the package is the Macro wavemaker, a suction cup holder (the auctions cups are on swivels to allow mounting in a corner or on a flush surface), and 2 different styles of plumbing hookups, which are a 1/2" pvc fitting and a 5/8" barb connector and instructions. The Macro comes in 3 different plumbing sizes, 1/2"(the one I purchased), 3/4" and 1". Installation is pretty straight forward. I chose to use the pvc fitting to plumb this to my return. After removing my loc line I screwed in a threaded fitting and a black 90 degree elbows to make the Macro instantly part of my return (see pics below). I pushed the suction cups into place and that was that. The suction cups seem to hold quite well and it is pretty rock solid in the tank. Aesthetically it is no larger than a small powerhead and not an eye sore at all. Now I plug it into my apex and this is where it loses a star from me.

As I plug it into my apex I notice it's quiet, an obvious plus. At this time it's rotating with no flow going thru it and it looks solid. I turn on the return pump and instantly I notice the rotating head starts to shake with flow going thru it (see attached video). Now I know it's not a major concern (at this point anyway) but I felt that needed to be shared.

Conclusion- All in all I feel like this is a decent product, it will work well with smaller return pumps. I'm not sure how it would react with a larger return pushing a decent amount of flow thru it with the shaking diverter. Now maybe the larger models will handle this better, I am running a mag 9.5 as my return with about 5 feet of headloss and running my reactors so maybe I am pushing too much flow thru it.

I was thinking about purchasing a larger model for my 180 display but I think I might hold off, but then again for the price of these things I might just try one anyway. I say if your looking for a additional wavemaker and can't afford a sea swirl I would def try this out. For $20 you can't lose

Thanks for the review, were there any flow ratings in the manual or on the packaging? I have to believe that they are intended to plumb to like plumbing sizes, i.e. A 1" return will handle the flow from a pump with a 1" outlet, wouldn't you think?

No there are not any flow ratings listed anywhere. My return pump outlet and all my return piping are 1/2" like the Macro, so I don't believe that to be the case.

I did, and being I have a small sump I had to install a check valve as well.

Here are the fish that are currently calling my frag tank home. *Please Note* My Powder Blue Tang is in the frag tank because he is on a prolonged timeout from the 180 because he's just a big bully. He was beating up my Desjardini Sailfin daily, so I removed him and he's been in there for going on 10 months. I will be putting him back soon, but I have a few more fish I want to add before I put him back in.

Here is the newest addition, the snowflake ocellaris. My Naked Ocell and him paired up almost instantly last night shortly after being introduced into the tank.

How have they been doing for you? They look great in the photo. I had one but I wasn't able to keep it alive.
But that was also in the beginning of my reefing days haha

Literally a weed. I feel bad for saying this, but when I was cleaning the racks it was late and I threw away about 10 that grew onto the racks and didn't feel like gluing

Haha will do, I don't normally do that but it was going on hour number 3 with cleaning and I was beat lol. I did make 7 frags of my jason Fox firecracker acro breaking growth off of the racks lol
