That is quite a bit of progress. You are making me feel lazy and slothful. I've been "working" on a re-aquascape for almost a year. Maybe this will be THE weekend I knock it out.

Here I go again, quoting myself in somebody else's thread but I am making some progress on my year long re-aquascaping project. The last bits of my overgrown rock are out and the new (live) rock is in but barren.

I recorded 12 hours of college football by now so... it is beer thirty. Back to you @Hydrored . No rest for the weary.

To see where this goes. Did I miss the powerheads you're using? Also I'm guessing you are doing mixed towards sps dominant with the stratons and 360x?

I’ll be moving the rock over tonight hopefully, have to wait and see what happened once water starts rolling through the plumbing. I added 25 lbs of KP live rock to that bin a couple months ago so hopefully that helps.

I like my bottoms bare for only utility and maintenance. I prefer the look of sand but then it has to be perfect all the time. So bare it will be.

It’s been fun but I’m running solo, moving that tank and stand into position on bags by myself was not fun at all lol.

I used the measurements provided by synergy, it’s like it can’t handle the turn over. I do not like a loud tank, this is also my first time using an external overflow like this, I have always used herbie so who knows.

sorry about the noise. its in the tuning. you can get those ultra silent. Let me know if you wanna talk through it. All of the tuning details are in the Synergy instructions. Let me know.

Got the rock moved over last night, one thing that’s frustrating me to no end is how loud the synergy overflow is. Where is the sound coming from? Is it in the plumbing or is the external box is at a different level than the internal oveflow box and the water is cascading down?

Its in the plumbing, it’s the secondary like it’s partially under siphon. The box itself is quiet

If the sound is from the plumbing, you should be in good shape.

I have a very similar ghost overflow (modular marine), and it's silent. It took a couple weeks to get it perfect. The plumbing will get coated with diatoms and the siphon sounds can get tuned out once you're settled on a return pump flow rate.

In my external overflow box I have a 3" straight pipe on the line with the gate valve and nothing on the line with the ball valve. Not sure how you have this configured, but that's worked for me. Every once in a while I give the gate valve a quarter turn to fine tune.

Cycling the rocks in advance with live rock as a diverse microbiologic seeding source I think is going to be helpful for accelerating the system's maturation. Did you have help getting the rock structures in place? You're cranking this out. @ScottB ??

Since this is all cycled with coraline and such already growing along with live rock in the sump what’s your thoughts on timeline adding a few fish? I have a few in a 30 gallon and feeling bad :-/ for them, I have to put them in the new tank first as my 210 is full of tough guys.

I really don’t want to as I love the scape as is but I’ll add more live rock also from my current main display that was also from the ocean. I kind of have to move right along as my 8’ has to come out by EOY. Pretty much have to insta tank this and that makes me nervous with all of my sticks. I’m sure I’ll get some losses but I have no choice

I am rather jealous now on those scape pieces. I usually have critical comments to make as they are generally too tall. Or it is a rock pile that inhibits flow. Or some feng shui violation. But I got nothin. It looks great. Will be SPS heaven.

As to my own new scape I am actually making some progress thanks to all this @Hydrored peer pressure. I am somewhat constrained in that my wife said "no more nubs" so it is mostly older classic stuff that is larger. I will be redoing it all in 2 years. Another first world problem.

Do you have any UV to tackle the bacterial bloom? Even if you don't, enough surface agitation and skimmer gas exchange should make it safe for your docile fish to move in early.

Room in the sump for the ocean rock? It is priceless stuff IMO but doesn't have to be in the display.

It took me a little longer than you to get all my filtration and electronics squared away, but I started adding fish one week after I had water in the system.

So once the water clears a little, in my opinion you should be fine to transfer fish over since you cycled already, but a little depends what fish are you thinking about adding?

I have a red striped hog fish, lemon peel tang, and a six line. I bought these all from a local reefer, wanted them in observation and also my tangs in my main are a holes. They beat any new addition up.

I have a 57 watt aqua UV sitting around, I did not hard plumb for a uv like I did on my 210 as I just use it on occasion.

I’ll be adding a stand alone manifold one a new pump arrives from RE. I could temp plumb one up.

I like fish in early. It is like setting the timer on when acros can go in. A bacterial bloom is so temporary you could just hack something ugly and not have to document it.

Mine is always ready to drop in when needed. I actually have two. Dinos or bacterial bloom, ich breakout just slap them on. (The pic is without the MJ1200 but you get the point.)

In terms of fish survival and bioload, I think you would be fine. I added 30 fish the first month.

The other consideration is temperament of the fish. It just comes down to what other fish you're planning to stock and a strategy for sequencing them. I don't know much about the temperament of the hog fish. Depending on what other wrasses you might be adding down the line, an established 6 line may not be super welcoming. Just a consideration.

Regarding the mimic, I've been told and witnessed Acanthurus can be a little more sensitive with young tanks. I don't currently have one from this genus in my system, but I did add four zebrasoma tangs and a chevron tang within the first month and they've all done great. So with the lemon peel, it's a calculated risk. Temperament wise I think you should be ok.

I agree with @ScottB in terms of getting fish in the system early. +1 on the UV too, if you can put something simple and temporary together, it'll clear that bloom up more quickly.

I have 60 frags of tenuis sitting on racks in my 210 going in over Christmas no matter what, the whole reason for the upgrade was I have new floors going in the rest of the house. I’ll transfer 150 gallons from my other tank along with the live rock.
