Hydros X10

Well people today or more entitled than ever. I think even the best companies in the world will get haters bad mouthing good products and people. And tbh I wouldn't be surprised if half the complaints about that stuff from either company is probably from fans of the opposite company just talking trash and pretending they're waiting for this stuff. The whole "my team is better" syndrome has been a cancer on the world for a long time now. Definitely need thick skin to do business online these days.
Those people that don't put their shopping carts in the corals in parking lots... those are the people writing the hate when a release date is missed.

August huh? That would be awesome. And I really want the salinity probe like everyone else, but as far as the other dosers, I just want to replace my kamoer x1pro2 pump I use for kalkwasser... it works fine but it never keeps me logged in and I never know my password so I haven't been able to use the app for it in over 6 months. Luckily it's still dosing correctly. Would be nice to have it on the hydros app though. I think the salinity probe uses one of the dosers. The remaining 2 dosers will probably be something for alkalinity like a part B or something and the last for whichever of the red sea colors.

For the kraken my main interest is battery backup. Idk if that's worth the coin since it doesn't have a battery with it... I'll wait around and look at reviews and ideas from others who have gotten it to see what the did.

The salinity probe will work as real time if you want but you will get better results with it in the iV and getting sample results. It will take a salinity and pH reading before starting the alkalinity test. The two probes are in the iV instead of the tank so there is no interferences associated with them being in the tank. For the iV it requires 2 precision dosing pumps, one for fill and one for reagent dispense. It needs a third dosing pump for drain but a simple doser will work for that. The X10 has 4 precision dosing pumps so you can use 2 of those and a simple dosing pump for the iV testing and that will leave 2 for dosing purposes.

The reason the Kraken does not come with a battery is that allows you to tailor the battery to your needs. You can get a battery from Amazon that works great with it for less than $50 or you can even use a marine battery. If it is inside though it is probably better using a lead acid gel cell type battery. It has a built in trickle charger for lead acid batteries but if you want to use another type that can be disabled and you can use a different charger for the battery. The 8 24v ports will be nice for those that have several of the 24v power packs like the ones on the EcoTech MP series pumps. Those can be replace with the 24v ports and the proper cable. It also has 4 12v ports Those are more limited to 1.5 amps each or a total of 3 amps. Most things like dosing pumps and solenoids do not use anywhere near the maximum current though.

Thanks for all that info.i would prefer real time for salinity but def want the iv for alk tests. I can't find that for sale anywhere or much info on it. Is that coming out at the same time as x10?

Yes I believe the iV and X10 will be released together since they kind of go together. The reason for sampled salinity is when it is in a beaker separate from the tank there is no electrical interference like in the tank. Also it normally takes a while for salinity to drift unless something major were to happen and that should get caught by several other means if things are setup with redundancy in place. The isolation makes for a more accurate reading. I am hoping that there will be a way to do pH and salinity testing between the alkalinity test so we can do them more frequently than the alkalinity test.

That makes sense. But I assume you you would need 2 separate iv and all 4 dosing pumps to do alkalinity test and salinity test then right?

If there is electrical interference with salinity probe in the tank wouldn't it be constant so if it throws your reading off by 1 ppt then can't you just double check with refractometer and know that it's off by a certain margin and always mentally add or subtract it from what number i see displayed? Or is it not that simple and the margin of error will be random or depending on if the heaters /pumps are on/off and such?

It should use the same pumps since it is the same vessel. Also there is biological interference. I had one on my Archon and after a couple of weeks the reading would start drifting down unless I cleaned the probe, I am hoping with it islolated it will fo longer before having to do that.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see either the x10 or the kraken be released before the summer is over. But I seriously doubt it will happen in the next few weeks. I personally like some of you, can’t wait. But my guess is late summer just based on the buzz around the hydros fb community. If someone is needing a controller asap, the x2,3,4 plus a hydros simple doser for your Alk or all4reef or whatever you dose, are all awesome options. You’ll most likely be expanding onto your hydros setup as is even with purchasing an x10. Hell I started with the x4 and wifi strip, now have 2 XP8’s, wave engine, hydros xs, plus a pair of hydros dosers and I still plan to buy and add either the x10 and/or the kraken to my setup

why not just start with the x4 pro pack, add that and the wave engine in a collective and run it till the x10 drops??? sounds stupid to just go with a different brand all because the x10 isnt released yet. even if the x10 was out, i can guarantee you will be adding that x4 pro pack to it within a month of owning it... ive got the x4 pro pack and wave engine v2 and my x4 ports are already in use. the next thing im buying is the x10 to add to that.

Been patiently waiting for this to come out. Has anyone heard anything about its release date? May have to just pull the trigger on another controller.

Understand your frustration not knowing and can assure you we all feel the same. But how are you testing and dosing today? Will your current testing and dosing regimen suffice until the X10 is released? And what are your automation plans? If testing, that alone will consume the X10 with the pH probe, conductivity probe, three dosing heads and one of the drive ports allocated for automated testing. That leaves you four sense ports and a drive port to work with. Valuable, but those aren't all you'll need to fully automate your setup. At a minimum, you'll need another pH probe--maybe two if controlling a calcium reactor--and some 110v ports. So regardless of what you're doing, there is likely a X3 (single pH probe, two sense ports) or X4 (dual pH probe, two drive ports, four sense ports, four 0-10v inputs, four 0-10v outputs) on the horizon. OR, if you're just doing general return, skimmer, heater, lights then there isn't a real need for the X10. You may well get away with one of the existing controls. Just food for thought... Get a portion of your setup started and become familiar with the app and operations. Or get another control out of the Hydros family. Or you also have the option of going elsewhere. I personally wouldn't rule out Hydros over unavailability of X10 which by all indications will be soon.

It's out now
If that is a question then yes. It had been out for a while now. Here is a screenshot of my testing page. The first 2 input tiles is readings from the iV. The third input tile is the pH probe in the tank. The forth input tile is the salinity reading form the iV. The iV reading are sampled and the time and date of the readings are on the tile. There are some other readings which are static type reading. Those are from manual test. I use Hanna tester for those. The last 2 input tiles are the realtime readings from the iV probes, but since they are not in the tank and in standing water until the next scheduled test the reading are not the same as the tank. These are normally set to hidden, but on this page I have the page set to display hidden inputs so I can see them.

Is that the IceCap Sump 48XL? I have the 36 and I am thinking about upgrading to the 48xl.

Same problem with my 36. its too small for large tanks. I have a 210g DT and my Skimmer is a IceCap K3 250 Ovp, its rated for 350g heavy bio load. The sump water volume is too small and I can't get the Skimmer over 50% power without the cup overfilling with water in seconds.

I meant more like it's readily available through a bunch of sites. It had been out of stock on pretty much every site for a while

Maybe I just now noticed this, but it had been out of stock on every side I could find about a month ago when I was looking to get one and then I got notification from one of the sites, can't remember which that they got it back in stock and I started looking around it looked like a lot of the sites you got it back in stock that's why I mentioned it

Things when first released like these probably sell out quickly when they get them in. I know there were a lot of people that were waiting for them to start selling so the first round probably did sell out quickly.

Appreciate the info. Now that you've had it a couple months how has it been performing? Are you finding the salinity probe and alk readings remain accurate? Any additional highlights of the x10? How many of the dosing pumps are required to run the iv for alk testing? Any issues or annoyances with it?

Haven't seen a real review from anyone on the forums yet
