I Am NOT Pleased...

While Spectrapure is considered like an industry standard or a Mercedes of an RO system, isn't the meat of the system the RO membrane with 98% rejection rate? I wonder if the brand name is worth the extra money.

The design of a standard RODI system seems pretty common among many companies. They all have similar housings as well. I understand that it’s also important to have a good sediment and carbon block filters that pretreat the water to keep the membrane clean and lasting longer.

Although I have an inexpensive 5-stage RODI system that I bought online many years ago, it does the job just fine with “0†TDS reading. I am using Dow’s Filmtec membrane with 98% rejection rate (the same kind that Spectrapure uses) and a good sediment filter and good carbon block filters from BRS. My membrane is going strong for more than 4 years now. I do change all the prefilters according to the schedule recommended by BRS and other companies, though

I agree completely with this. The system is only as good as the membrane.... I have an OLD kent RO/DI unit that I use BRS prefilters and membrane in. TDS has been 0 every time I measure it. I just change the membrane out every year wether I need to or not. And the others out as recommended.

I also agree with this. The actual body of the Spectrapure seems really no better than any other reputable maker. However I swear by their filters and even though I run both a Spectrapure 6 stage and an AquaFx 6 stage I only use Spectrapure filters, DI and RO membranes. I find they just seem to last longer.

I used to do the same, but now I just check the TDS of the effluent out of membrane. After four years of use, the level is slightly higher (like two or three points), but it goes to "0" after going through DI resins. I can buy a coral with the money I save instead of buying a membrane.

Very good point.......I think I'm going to have to follow your example! :)

If you go to the sporting good section and ask the guy for aqua tainers. They are blue and hold six gal. I think they are like six buck and have a handle and pour spouts. Good luck.

Thank you SO much to jwilson for the RO unit! I can't wait to use it next week! : )

Ro water is good to drink, just shut the di side off and clean drinking water. Who knows what's coming out the tap, and why pay for bottled water? Home water filtration is recommended even without a reeftank. Gonna go get me a glass now.
