I Am NOT Pleased...

You want to go for the most GPD you can get, so definitely the spectrapure from that list.

Also, if your water pressure isn't the best, you may also want to look into a booster...just something to think about.

Our water pressure is pretty great, luckily!

I disagree with this. The more gpd you have. The more TDS it will allow thru the membrane. I would not go above 75. If u need more water per day, add in a second membrane and di resin chamber.

I don't think the flow rate matters with your size tank...I have a 50 gpd and do 10gallons wc a week. I set it up by having a 55 gallon drum with an auto shutoff.

And not everyone has room for a 55 gallon drum of already pre-made water.

It is true that in most cases the GPD doesn't matter, but if you also don't have the room for a setup to hold water, you have to take into consideration the amount of time it takes for a filter to generate 5 gallons of water (since that is what the OP was originally getting). In my case, it takes 2 hours for my 90gpd unit to create 5 gallons.

These are just things to consider...

I'm sorry I didn't see where Emily didn't have room for water storage. I saw that they just bought a house and assumed there was a garage. If that'd be the case the ideal and easiest thing to do would be to get a drum or garbage can with an auto shut off valve and have storage in the corner of the garage. I did that and just tapped into water heater and drilled hole through wall for excess. If I missed something than you can always just tap into faucet and wait a couple hours for 5 gallons at a time. Whatever works best for you Emily of course:)

True, we DO have a garage! What we used to do at the LFS I used to work at was we had one of the giant Rubbermaid garbage bins on wheels & we would mix the water in there after it'd been filtered, so I was probably going to do that as well. There's a step down into the garage, though, so I might have to get crafty & make a ramp!

I have a feeling that it'll be an all day affair when it comes to water changes, regardless of which GPD I invest in. : /

I have the BRS filter. I have it hooked into my water heater which is in the garage where I have the Rubbermaid barrel on wheels along with two cars. I have just enough room out there! I also keep 50ft of line to fill up the auto top off container in the stand in the living room. It all worked out great for me!

ON tip for everyone. if you are filling more than just a few gallons of water, SET A DARN TIMER!. I cant tell you how many times Ive started to fill my top off and forgot. on the old house my top off was gravity fed and the bin overflowed onto the wall, and soaked the garage floor. this weekend I filled my 55 gallon drum. it was about 1/2 full so about 8 hours would top it off. I forgot my timer and ended up with several gallons of good water on the floor of the garage yet again.

+1 on the timer. I only got about a gallon on my kitchen floor but it could have been worse. I set the timer on my iPhone that stays in my pocket in case I'm away from the kitchen.

How about installing a float switch like this one on your container? It works very well and I have not had water spill for years now.

The one you picture will certainly stop the spill but it won't stop the waste water line from wasting water. BRS has a device to install on your RO unit that will shut off all the water when your container is full.

That is BRILLIANT. I may have to invest in one of those.

H@rry must be talking about an automatic shutoff valve. I thought that it is a standard issue on the majority of RODI filters, but it does not hurt to double-check before you buy an RODI filter.

I'm looking into buying a Spectrapure one! It excites me to no end. I feel like it's going to take forever & a day to get this tank filled with water. : /

Tomako, yes, I need to get one but im just lazy about ordering it. I have the auto cut off valve laying in a drawer somewhere. Emily, yes it will take a bit but all worth it. patience grasshopper....

i have a simple 3 stage Corallife unit sitting in my garage that you can have. i bought a 5 stage, and have no use for the 3 stage. it could use a set of filters, but otherwise, it worked when i upgraded.

Whoa, for real?! How much would you want for it?

My BRS unit did not come with the auto shutoff, but I bought one for about $10. That, plus a couple of float switches, some 1/4" tubing and a T-valve and I can easily and simply fill two rubbermaid Brutes without spilling a drop. It only took a couple of times forgetting to set the timer and rinsing my garage floor with RO/DI water, to make that a no-brainer investment.

Looks like you might already have a pretty good hook up already but if something with that does not pan out Spectrapure just posted their August sale prices you can get a 90gpd refurbished 4 stage for $128. I had this very same unit for awhile and it was great!

MAXPURE MPDI SYSTEM

While Spectrapure is considered like an industry standard or a Mercedes of an RO system, isn't the meat of the system the RO membrane with 98% rejection rate? I wonder if the brand name is worth the extra money.

The design of a standard RODI system seems pretty common among many companies. They all have similar housings as well. I understand that it’s also important to have a good sediment and carbon block filters that pretreat the water to keep the membrane clean and lasting longer.

Although I have an inexpensive 5-stage RODI system that I bought online many years ago, it does the job just fine with “0†TDS reading. I am using Dow’s Filmtec membrane with 98% rejection rate (the same kind that Spectrapure uses) and a good sediment filter and good carbon block filters from BRS. My membrane is going strong for more than 4 years now. I do change all the prefilters according to the schedule recommended by BRS and other companies, though
