I bet there is a ID request in here...

thanks reefer very good information ! okay so i live in florida i guess now i just gotta figure out where to find some good things. hehehe.

Get your scuba license, rent some gear, ask around to find a reef, and dive it. The reefs that are close off the coast here are all just rock and fish. Triggerfish galore.

no prob... love the off subject info. i prefer to be informed, so thanks.

well i did a lot of snorkeling in curacao. and it was amazing. i was thinking about getting scuba certified i think would be great.

Collection licenses is not needed. Many people believe that you need a collecting licenses but in reality all you need is a valid fishing licenses. This goes for Florida as well, as long as it is not attached to a existing reef, a tire, dock and so on is not a reef.
but, there are limits to what and how many you can take. Such as Florida you can only take 3 pieces per day. Get caught with more and you are in deep trouble. You can find this information on the website of Florida DNR and also Hawaii DNR.

I'm not sure what you are referring too... As far as hawaii goes:

sand - no permit
soft corals - no permit
rock - no take
hard corals - no take
fish - permit needed

I'm not sure about FL laws though, not my area.

You are correct, hard coral is not allowed to be taken from Hawaii or Florida. I dont know the complete laws for each state. I have looked at them in the past. This is the reason I referred people to Hawaii or Florida DNR. I was speeking of coral in general, mainly zoanthids since that was the topic which qualify as soft coral. If anyone decides to get live coral from the ocean please read the laws from the state you are in, each one is different.

I also just became aware that live coral of no sort is allowed to be shipped into Hawaii. I ship a lot of coral and the Hawaii Departmment of Agriculture interupted the shipment. They called me directly about the coral and told me all about it. To ship coral into Hawaii a permit is needed.
I am sure that many people get them in Hawaii without any issues. But, I had the box marked LIQUID SALTWATER and I am sure this is the reason the box was stopped.

That is exactly why it was rejected. I know people have it here... I've seen advertisements on craigslist like this one: http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/for/793018025.html

risky...

I would assume the box would have to be unmarked and not leaking in order to get by. The permit you speak of is probably needed in order to ship to aquaculture facilities on the islands.

I could get the permits to propagate SPS and LPS from all over the world with the stipulation that you can not sell to the state of Hawaii.

You are also technically right about the no permit needed for collection of fish… You would have to catch your aquarium fish with a hook and a pole though. I’ve seen it done… lol I saw a young kid pull up a yellow tang with a mickey mouse fishing pole once.

other wise you would need:

Aquarium Permit - required for any person to use fine mesh net for collecting aquatic life for an aquarium. Report required if commercial. No fee. HRS §188-31.

since i plan to sell i need the CML:

Commercial Marine License (Resident, Non-resident) - required for anyone to take marine life for commercial purpose. Also known as the commercial fishing license. Fees vary. Report required. HRS §189-2 & 3.

Great information! I am surprised that it is so restricted with Hawaii being tropical islands. But then again maybe the restrictions keep the island beautiful!

ha why not get the aquarium permit if it's free anyway? so you can ship out of hawaii but not into it? and so what does your tank consist of? strictly hawaiin stuff and no sps?

So what kind of permit do I need to collect hard corals in Missouri? They wash up on the beach all the time here and I just throw them back.....

I think you misunderstood... If i was grabbing stuff for my personal tank, then yes... an aquarium permit would be sufficient. The moment i want to sell you a frag out of my personal tank, i need a CML.

oh no i'm just saying for everyone in hawaii ha just seems like a thing that every aquarist should have but how does your tank look with the strict importation laws?

this guy sells the same ones i'm selling for $20 per polyp. I think you'd be getting a pretty good deal if you bought mine.

his aren't even true RPEs... no black lines.

$20 x 23 = $460... ya, i'd say. lol $500 frag for $150 ain't bad.

I just want my new tank plumbing! :violent1:

I was in no way saying your ripping people off. I just cant believe how much frags have gone up in price.

understood, and i do agree with you... That's why my RPEs are priced so low. I don't believe they should be sold at $20 per polyp.
