So between all the recent live shows and ebay, i think i have something like 35 frags coming to my 125 gallon mixed reef tomorrow.

This is a very busy week for work for me and im worried i wont be able to weather the alkalinity storm that could be headed my way.

I have no idea why i thought it was a good idea to have them all delivered on the same day.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Initially they won’t be using much alk and cal until they settle in, so just start to monitor alk and cal usage. Take a reading before they go into the tank and then every other day after until u get a idea of the usage. From there u can start to adjust alk and cal, but not before hand.

Thanks! Right now I measure alk 2 times a day. First thing in the morning and right before bed.

i know my alk gets used up during the day and only some times at night. I don't have a dosing pump yet as I am weary about something going wrong and my dkh going up to 20.

Have u started dosing yet

I wouldn’t be concerned, you really don’t need a dosing pump, initially I would add Kalk to your ato if you have one.

Just remember, never make big changes at once, always small changes to parameters to keep you from making mistakes.

I like to turn my lights to acclimation mode for a couple days to help the frags acclimate. This typically lowers Alk consumption for the rest of the tank. You may want to consider this if you are really concerned

Billldg is right monitor you alk everyday maybe even twice a day I would use the Hannah checker unless you have a trident lol .also the best thing you can do figure out the best layout for when the frags grow into colonies but before that I would put them on a frag rack to have time to research what’s the best location for all the frags.

Thanks again for the reply. I add about 10mls of red sea alk a day. Although recently I added an orphek light bar and the corals have slowed consumption down acclimating to the extra par.

Makes sense to me! Thanks!

That is super high impulse

be sure to run carbon upon introduction and lower white light intensity

I would stay down that path until you start to see a change in your parameters.

I am definitely impulsive. The corals have actually been purchased over the past month or so. Because of my schedule I've had to have them all delivered on the same day. Just wish Jason Fox didn't have a live sale so close to top shelf lol.

As far as lights go I only run 10% white already.

I don't think I've ever heard the phrase "too many corals" on here before.
Yes. That phrase is for inside our heads only.

Usually out loud we just say “what do you mean to many? They’ll all fit!”

I glue my frags to frags, back wall, upside down. Don’t matter. Single frag rack, I think not!

On a serious note. Take your time acclimating. If it’s going to get over whelming with the time allotted, reach out to a friend of lfs and see if you can temp house some until you get time to set them up how you want them.

I too sometimes over buy, I mean, get sent lots of extra frags for free, if anyone asks. Usually takes close to a week before I start seeing my alk get to a range where I need to intervene.

Couple water changes might soften the process too.

Should be good for a little while. Keep up with the testing like everyone has said because once they start to take off then you will be testing and dosing like a mad man!!! Good luck and post some pictures!

This sounds like my normal purchases. As someone else mentioned, you shouldn't see much of a change in your alk probably for the first week or 2, then you start to see a gradual uptick in consumption of alk. Depending on how number of SPS, LPS, and softies you added will drive how fast your alk gets used. The more SPS, the quicker it goes. On my systems, it typically levels out after about a month.
