I finally realized who I am!

Equipment doesn't grow corals. Money doesn't grow corals (Unless you want to go all the way, and hire an experienced reefer to maintain your system!) Chemicals, reactors, skimmers, electronics... none of these things grow corals.

Conscientious reef keepers, ones who spend the time and effort to understand the animals they're keeping, who are willing to do the work necessary to maintain these very complex, living works of art... that's what grows corals.

I enjoy the game of Darts. Used to play league, and in an occasional tournament. One day, many years ago, I was at a fairly serious tournament. Company that was making high end darts was there with a booth. I spent a couple hundred dollars that I really couldn't afford on a high end set of Black Widow darts. I still have them. They didn't help me shoot any better, but man, they sure were nice looking. Today, my 'black widow' darts are worn to bare steel, and I'm a MUCH better player. No, the new darts didn't help, but throwing them enough to wear the paint off a set sure did!

I'm now in the process of trying to wear the finish off of my new pool que

As an full time fisherman, Environmental Chemist before, I'm a lazy hobbyist still trying to grow sps. Everything else grows, but the sps. I played golf too, but the time it took to play a round I switched to boating. I've only realized the same thing, though I loved them all, fact remains, the amount of money spent on hobbies is unbelievable. Plain and simple, why do all the lures I fish with have the greatest paint jobs? It was never for the fish!

Guess I'll chime in. I just feel pretty silly right now. I just set a nice comfortable chair in front of my tank and really enjoy observing everything. I have spent sooo much time on ideas and changes with the system, that I forgot the most important part. I also think that frequent and extended observation, is a key to successful reef keeping.

I'm a life long Tolkien fan. The portions of Gandalf's character that I mimic have little to do with wisdom, or even facial hair. The descriptions of cranky, cantankerous, and short tempered strike closer to home. Honestly, Radagast the brown is probably a better comparison. I live out in the woods, work from home, rarely leave my own property... I'm striving to become a well known local recluse.

I'm the guy who was single until I was 44, golfed 3 times per week, actually had a 6 handicap and won a few local tournaments, and was basically what you call....happy. Then I went on a blind date, got married with 2 step kids, and am lucky if I golf 3 times per YEAR! I am now 53. I'll admit, I'm still very happy, but I was missing something.....a hobby! About 4 years ago, I started a 55 gallon fresh water tank, but quickly become bored. Every time I'd make a trip to the LFS, I'd look at the saltwater fish and drool (hmm, no drool emoji). Anyway, I converted to saltwater about 2 years ago and LOVE IT! Best hobby ever!!!

I play golf a lot! I go over the top and don't transfer my weight. So I'm a mid 80s guy. So I'm a terrible golfer who can't keep sps alive! I know my limitations! Hmmm! Maybe I'll try needle point my first piece would be of a golfer with an sps tank! What do you guys think?
