I picked these up due to their interesting color and wanted to see if anyone had anything similar and if they are a 'named coral' aside from just a PE.

I wish the pic captured the detail of the color, but they're almost rainbow colored, heavy in violet and blue with a touch of red. The skirt has some green on it, but it's light and on about every other fringe

and for giggles, what would you pay for them? They're not for sale as they're the only 2 I have, but it's fun to know what kind of deal I got on a coral from a $5 frag rack. They were certainly worth that price to me!

i have a few PE's and it just occured to me that I have never asked what considers them PE's other than the fact thats what they were called when i bought them. What seperates PE's from regular Palys? Not trying to get off track just curious as to why you know that they are PE's

The green slit mouth makes them a PE. :)

Your welcome!

I think those are a Green PE Cody. :) BTW Welcome to R2R!

I call those green mouth people eaters as they're not green people eaters as they're completely green (totally diff if you saw them side by side) Don't know if they have an actual name, but thats what I call em!

The green slit mouth makes them a PE. :)

I believe in order for them to classified as PE they must also have white lines on the underside of the skirt. You can see these white lines when the polyps are closed.

Yes you are correct! The only way to see this is for the polyps to close up.

They're definitely not greens since the green is just around the mouth and the ridges. The rest of the paly is blue/red/purple. The pic you're seeing is under a 12K reeflux bulb and a pair of actinic T5s, about 18" down.

They do have the white undersides, so they're not all mouth. Oh well, no name, no worries. I was just curious and was told that if anyone knew it be the people here. I like them, name or not.

Thanks!

The problem with an ID is hard w/ True PE sometimes. They can change color drastically based on lighting. After it has been in the tank for a couple of months. I collect PE so here is an example. These are both the same polyps. Pic 1 is when I got it from the LFS. Pic 2 is what they look like now.

Don't even look similar.
If you don't find a good answer it may because it will change once it settles. Just a thought.
Now my general PE lesson. In the reef community PE are usually identified by the green mouth and white striations on the closed polyps. Not all PE have these chacteristics. PE are Zoanthus Gigantus which translates to Giant Zoas; The zoa answer to Palythoa Grandis. The only true way to tell Zoanthus Gigantus in under a microscope.

Post some updates in a month or two so we can compare them to the pic above.
Hope that helps. :)

I also agree with Jolly Green Giant; pictured here on the right for your comparison.

IME those greenish PEs that were the topic of this post look like young polyps of a whole slew of morphs that get everywhere from no white, to white flecks, swirling, or almost totally white when fully colored up. Give them good lighting and sit back and watch the show :)

Good luck!
Tim

They look like a slightly subdued Jolly Green. Thanks!

I am curious to see what they do. They're on my frag rack in the bottom of my 33g cube, but they're getting 250w of MH above, so I'm not too concerned about insufficient lighting. I can grow acros down there, so they should be okay :)

Once again, I appreciate the help! I'm definitely making this board one of my regular check-ins.

they are infact called............................................... green stardust PE (coralpedia)

the speckles will eventually become evident and a blue outer ring...................... give it time for stabiliy........
