How do you start your QT? Do you have a sump? I quick start my QT by keeping a sponge filter in my sump. I also have spare rock rubble and keep about 4 pieces in the sump. When I'm ready to set it up, I connect the sponge filter to an air pump, add the rubble and then a small marineland HOB. I add a few drops of ammonia and it's ready to go with no worries of cycling or ammonia/nitrite spikes.
I used the same thing as you just described. I placed a sponge in my sump for a month. I had an ammonia alarm and it got to .05 which isn’t high it just stressed me out to the point I was doing water changes every few days. The water was cloudy too. My LFS said all I needed was the sponge and air filter. You and others have stated I also need a hob. I did not realize that would be necessary however I am willing to try it for next timeHow do you start your QT? Do you have a sump? I quick start my QT by keeping a sponge filter in my sump. was just telling you what works for me. I like the HOB because it helps pick up uneaten food and the carbon pad.You and others have stated I also need a hob. I did not realize that would be necessary however I am willing to try it for next time
Very nice! Maybe it was just me worrying for no reason. I just got worried because the poor thing just hide the entire time. Now she’s been in my tank for 24. She swims back and forth with my anthias and is a normal color for a change.
I can definitely relate! I decided to pull my mandarin out of quarantine after only a week because I didn’t want her to starve. Even though I was putting live copeods into the QT tank daily she just seemed very stressed. I’m usually vigilant about the qt process but decided to roll the dice this time. In her case it paid off because she’s fat and thriving. I hope everything goes well with your little ones. Sending positive vibes your way!I bought a cute little one spot Foxface 2 weeks ago (Bumblebee). I put Bumblebee straight into quarantine. Since being placed into quarantine it seemed like the poor little thing was wasting away. It took almost a week to get her (anything that swims that gracefully has to be female lol) to eat and the entire time her has been huddled in a corner in camouflage.
Today I made the decision to pull Bumblebee from quarantine and place her in my DT. I just felt like she wasn’t thriving and didn’t want to stress her out more. This is the first time I’ve actually seen her spot due to her being camouflaged for 2 weeks. She has been swimming around the full length of my tank and NOT hiding for a change! Even seems to be socializing with my Anthias!
I really hope I didn’t make a mistake by pulling her out too soon. I hope I don’t get some sort of outbreak of ich. Has anyone else pulled a fish out of quarantine early? During the observation she seemed healthy other than looking super stressed.

What a beautiful little fish! I can’t wait to try my hand on a mandrian. Was going to wait until my tank hits a year or so.I can definitely relate!
