I just can't get it right..

I have the same sump just add more water

If the skimmer compartment water level rises higher than the weir, its a clear sign of pump/overflow rate is faster than the sump can handle.

Salt water, until you get to the desired water level and then RO/DI to replace evaporated water to keep the level constant.

Added more water and IT WORKED!! Thank you all so much for your help.. I feel like a idiot because I thought I had added enough already.. now I think I have to much because my skimmer went crazy.. but I turned it down until it evaporates a little.. but problem solved.. what would I do without you guys!! Thanks again..

Make sure when you turn everything off, the water in the sump does not overflow or you will have a flood during power outage.
Crap I didn't think of that.. well hopefully I won't have to choose either my pump working correctly or worrying about a flood.. does anyone know what surge protector is the best to use with saltwater? I mean I know nothing is fool proof but I swear somewhere on here I saw a water friendly one.. lol

@Brew12 can probably answer that. Helped me with a few pieces of equipment as well.

I use the monster power platinum 800 8 outlet suge protector. It is supposed to be fireproof if water gets into the outlet but IMO nothing is "proof", but rather resistant. I've splashed it a few times while working in the tank but nothing bad. I lose power a lot from storms and all the equipment always comes back on

Sorry I am late to the party! I think it is great that you are finally getting your dream system up and running. I know it has been a struggle getting to this point.

Your sump will have plenty of volume in the event of a power failure. Never hurts to test it but I would be shocked if you have a problem. Just turn your pump off and see what happens. I doubt you will get close to the top edge in any compartment.

+1 on this recommendation. Very nice unit.

That said, the installation is much more important the the surge protector used. If possible, hang it upside down so you have to push up on the plugs to plug them in. This forces you to use a drip loop and if water does get in it falls right back out. If you cant do that, hang it sideways. The worst thing to do is lay them flat on the ground.

Can't wait to see your build thread!

You live so close you should come help lol I'm just kidding.. and yes you know the struggle.. I can't wait either.. I need a template for my guild thread:) hint hint

I think that skimmer requires a fairly narrow optimum water level range, like between 7.5"min to 8"max. I would make sure your sump water level stays within that range, so your skimmer will work as intended. Set your float switch on your ATO to keep it topped off and running at that level.

BTW, when do you sleep? :-)
