I made a boo boo...

While on the surface this seems good, it just made buying and selling used gear way more work.

1) Buying - No more simple browsing. Instead you’ll need to enter and scroll through numerous subcategories.
2) Selling - Tracking, responding, and updating multiple sale threads will be a pain
3) Moderating- This will be a lot more work for site moderators.

Tom

Edit: Never mind. This was confusion on my part. Lol

How about a watch button for the whole forum instead of having to go into every sub forum and clicking watch.
I was thinking the same.

You can subscribe to watching the all the forums with one click.

You can still see every sale going on here in this feed. It's the "Marketplace" LINK at the top of every page on the forum: https://www.reef2reef.com/marketplace/

Also once this is all set up we will have so many links and ways to customize how you see things that you'll love it!

1. You can still see every sale going on here in this feed. It's the "Marketplace" LINK at the top of every page on the forum: https://www.reef2reef.com/marketplace/

2. It's easy to track your threads by clicking the My Threads Link at the top of the page: https://www.reef2reef.com/find-threads/started

3. Nah! :p

Thanks mods- love the categories!

One suggestion- has there been any consideration to having a separate forum for "garage sales/fish room cleanups"? The current system seems like it would work really well for larger discreet items, but would likely have the unintended consequene of reducing sales of smaller/inexpensive items. For example, someone cleaning up is unlikely to make a seperate post for every test kit or magfloat they're selling and it might make it onerous to have the buyers check every post by an author. I can't tell you how many times I've bought some piece of plastic that was trivial to the seller, but was exactly what I needed (e.g. skimmer collection cup lid). I just worry that by eliminating general lists, most people won't be bothered to list these smaller items and we'll loose that element of recycling this hobby has always enjoyed.

1) Not the same. I have no interest in livestock sales.

2) Tracking... sure. But having your APEX monitor multiple tanks doesn’t make feeding, water changes, and scraping algae for each tank any easier!

3) OK... Hard to see how keeping that many more categories organized will be less work.

Seems like the main benefit of this change is to boost thread and post counts.

Tom I'll crate a link for just drygoods only as well pretty soon so hang tight!

Also you're wrong about more posts, 100%. It's about getting organized for easier search. Now if you click a little thread prefix it's a link that will take you to all of those same items. If someone posts an LED light now they have that little LED TAG and if you click it it will open up all threads that are selling LED lights.

Oh and good analogy on point number two. We actually will have a resolution for that soon when the new market rolls out so people who have multiple items can post in one spot.

Who do I contact to regain the ability to start new sale threads? Says I have insufficient privileges but I was able to post threads ok the old forum.

Not caring for this change. I like to browse the for sale threads I usually have no idea what I am looking for If I see something of interest I may purchase it for the right price. The way this is setup I have to click on 20 different links to see whats available. Please put it back to the way that it was. Really only helps if you have a specific item you are looking for, but you still have to hope the seller put it in the right section. . I can see a lot of items not being sold due to people not knowing they are available or they will end up getting sold for an even lower price due to lack of interest.

Love the idea ! Although can’t figure out why I don’t have privileges to post a new sale thread
Am sure I have been long enough in the forum

Never mind ! I see now my stupidity . Had to go inside the sun forum to post :)

I have that clicked but am not getting notifications of new posts like I used to. I understand the reasoning behind this but it’s kind of a pain to go through when you’re just browsing looking for nothing in specific.

I think the enhancement proposed by @revhtree in the quote below will address the issues that both of you have with the new forum. I too did not care for it at first. However, after a little thought it is kind of nice to be able to follow only the things that I could feasibly use. I don't need to know every time someone posts a 200g aquarium setup for $5k or when sumps are posted. With this new category system I can weed those threads out and follow smaller items that might be useful to my setup.

Long story short... give it a little time and you might decide you like the new way better. Most of us have a hard time with change! haha If not it has been promised that there will soon be a tab to browse all of the dry goods threads on one page. Rome was not built in a day! :-)
