I need to replace my main pump....what brand do you recommend?

I have a Danner Supreme Mag 18 now on my 180. It runs, but when everything comes back on after feed mode, this pump will not come back on. I have to stick a zip tie inside the input to make the propeller start back up. I was told this pump isn't meant to be turned on and off. Please tell me which pump you use, or your recommendation for this application. Thank you in advance!!

The Ehiem 1262 has worked for me flawlessly for about 4 years and I haven't cleaned it once. It is a fantastic pump!

DC-12000 would be a nice upgrade. I have the 3000 and the 6000. Dead silent, soft startup, and way less watts (less heat) than the mag pumps.

If a DC pump is what you're looking for, I just purchased a Reef Octopus Diablo 10500 because I am moving my sump to the basement and I will need the extra head pressure. After hours of reviewing, I went with the name I trust in the DC pump.

+1 on both. The Eheim 1262 are great pumps with a tremendous track history but I also agree with the DC-1200 as they are completely silent (Eheim is quiet but not like this), the soft start up is great and uses almost no wattage

I am a huge reef octopus fan but the jeboa and the reef octopus dc pumps are the same just different colors same controller same pump but the jeboa is half the price

I know they look similar. But please see below for the comparison I did for my application at 13' of head pressure (8' basement walls - tank return is 5' from 1st floor) for the two best models each offers. They use almost identical wattage.

Jaboa 12000:$212 (Amazon Price)
Max power is 3,200 gph at 0' of head
84w at full power
Pumps around 500gph at 13' of head (84.4% loss in pressure)

Diablo 10500: $269.99 (Amazon Price)
Max GPH is 2775gph at 0' head
85w at full power
Pumps around 1,600 gph at 13' of head (42.3% loss in pressure)

It may be different for the other similar model pumps, but for $58 more you are getting a more powerful, more energy efficient pump IMO. I feel their inner componants must be different if they pump is using almost identical wattage but producing very different results.

I see the Jabao 12000 is $168.00 on ebay (possibly cheaper elsewhere). I did not purchase the Jabao so I did not overpay. My point was to show that the pumps are not the same pump in different plastic. There is clearly different mechanics.

Numbers were pulled from the pump's listed specifications. I just did some Math to get the percentages.

They underrate it by stating it has more GPH flow at 0' of head pressure than the "same" Diablo pump (3,200gph vs. 2,775gph)? Something just isn't adding up. If they are indeed the exact same pump, then someone is misrepresenting their product. If the Jabao's specs were more impressive (or had accurate specs) at 13' of head, then I most certainly would have purchased it over the Diablo to save myself some money. I like saving money. Their "underrating" lost them a customer.

No disrespect to you and your opinion. I am just a little frustrated and confused by this comparison. I ended up ordering the Diablo 10500 for my application to get their claimed GPH up to my tank. 500gph from the Jabao simply would not have been enough once you factor in 90's and valves.

You are comparing a 10000 to a 12000. That's where they get the additional gph.

I'm in the same boat as you, though. I'm blindly stating my opinion. I've not tested either pump. I just don't know what value an added $160 would do for a diablo. Unless you hit the threshold of head limitation like you did.

What does the additional 800gph do for your pump, btw? I'm curious.

I'm running the jebao 12000 right now in my 75, I used to run a mag 24& it seems to be bit short on flow compared.

I just installed Jebao DC12000 in both my 180g system and my frag tank system. No sould at all, soft start, 6 speeds up to 3000gph and a built in 10 minute feed delay. Great deal! Got 4 of them in a group buy direct from Jebao for $99.00 each. I only needed 3, but at that price you buy a spare just to sit on the shelf and guarantee that the one in the sump never fails! I tested the DC12000 in a 7 gallon bucket of water and after 8 hours the water temperature only went up 4 degrees!
