I need two more fish for my Reefer 170, help!

Hey everyone:

Current occupants: YWG, Firefish, 2 Clowns, Cardinal

So I need two more active, colorful fish and I'll be good to go. I'd like to have a Black Capped Basslet as my main fish, but then I can't get a Royal Gramma.

So my options are Royal Gramma plus __________.

Or, Black Capped Basslet plus __________.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be awesome! Thanks.

I think you should get a royal gramma plus a watchman goby then you could get a pistol shrimp for your watchman goby they will be the most entertaining thing you have in the tank! Also what size is your tank? And how long has it been cycling?

It's 34 gallons and it's well past cycling, it's been up and running like a champ for 4 or 5 months.

I totally agree about the goby/pistol shrimp combination, very entertaining, but I already have a Yellow Watchman Goby (YWG) in there. I like the Royal Gramma, I just can't figure out a good fish to go along with it. Something that's active and won't hide all day.

So it's Royal Gramma or Black Capped Basslet and _______________??

Doesn't adding the Royal Gramma eliminate any other basslet? I thought the rule was one to a tank?

I've had such bad experiences with Dansels! Is there one I can trust, because I'm NOT fishing one out of another tank I've done that twice and that's enough.

I have heard in the past that basslets of different genuses can get along peacefully, though not sure how much it has been done.

Maybe a smaller wrasse, Chalk Bass?

i would skip the basslet and go with a small cherub angelfish. Basslets hide and are rarely seen most of the time. Dont know the coral situation in you tank though

Never heard of a Chalk Bass but they look like they could work, cool looking fish, if I can find one, thanks for the suggestion!

The tank will have coral so that has to be part of the consideration.

Dansels are out, I'm just scared of them.

Angelfish are out because of the coral (should have mentioned that earlier, sorry).

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

highly suggest the damselfish that were said before. Damsels in the Chrysiptera arent little ******s like most other damselfish. Sapphire also are known to eat flatworms in reef tanks being helpful as well. Highly suggest researching these guys.

Hard to find very active fish for you tank size other wise. Most smaller fish are not as active and like to perch, or sit on the sand.

dont get a 6 line wrasse or similar, those guys are just as much ******s as the bad damselfish species. A small leopard wrasse, flasher wrasse, or fairy wrasse could work for a while but might need to be rehomed when they get bigger and need a tight fitting lid

I wouldn't try adding more than one more fish. A basslet or damsel would work. Your tank is relatively small, so you can't really fit any active fish like an angel or wrasse.

What about a pink streak wrass? They are very pretty and attractive they don't hide all the time there minimum tank size is 10 gallons and they are easy to care for and peaceful. I think it would ba a great addition to your tank!

Unfortunately I can’t come up with many more options for active fish as yes most smaller fish tend to be sedentary or stick close to a rock.

I was thinking about a Pink Streak Wrasse, that may be my best option if I can find one.

And I will do some research on the damsels you guys mentioned, they are pretty, active fish when they're not being jerks.

This will be my last fish, that's why I want to make it a good one.

My lfs recommended a less common fish for my last fish since I can't fit much more kind of like a show piece. Maybe a swissguard basslet
