Gosh. So many choices. Mojo, out of the different Reef Octopus styles, which is the best?

acanman sorry to disegree but msx/swc are way better than octopus skimmer, they are simular in design but not in performance.but a swc mini cone will skimm your tank like a champ and only cost 500.00

Spend the money and get an I-tech, all their models are good. Can't say that for most manufactures. I have an I-tech 100 and 400 and love them they just work and never need to touch them set and forget. You can't beat the customer service.

+1 for I-tech and their CS. i have the 200 and love it. now they come with the tunze pump it's even better. heard great things about the ATB but sicce pumps are way too noisy for me.

There is always lots of debate on al of this. The itech 100 would be too small for your system volume IMO. THe 200 would be fine. THe ATB 8401.5 is the best balanced skimmer I have used to date. Thats why I like it so. THe ATB has the best service I have had to date. Itech has a good reputation. As far as octos go I think if you buy from a repuatable seller you will be fine. Like premium or reef specialty.

I would look at the ATB, the octo xp2000 cone, the WM as150 would even work well. THe vertex in 180. I think those are the best for your setup. The octo needs a little lower waterlevel and the pump has a slight hum. Still a quiet skimmer though.
The I tech is not a bad choice. ITs just going to be a debate when you say best for the money. If it were less money I would say go for it. But since its not much less than the ATB I would get the ATB.THe ATB uses a seemless cone body and uses a better grade of plastic cone. I believe its PPA , and not ppeg like some of the others. Actually I think the itech and the old atb bodies were Clear PVC. Not for certain there but that is why the color of the body was always lightly tinted. Alot depends on your water level as well as it would deter me one way or the other.

The octos and the MSX are teh same skimmer. The only difference is the venturi and the pinwheel.

The newer octos have a longer transition to the neck but the stock pinwheels are junk IMO. The msx wheel , ATB large wheel and the Warner marine wheel are the best three out there.

I have ran many skimmers, From Bubble kings and ATB's to octos and now a Bubble magus.

yesI agree, I should of stated i meant the wheels on the sicce pumps from octo. The bubble blasters are pretty nice. just kinda big in size

Okay... I think I'll go with the Reef Octopus Cone XP2000 instead of the vertex and wm as150 because I can get it easiest locally. I can't find the ATB, could any generous people out there give me a link? :D

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

is the Mini Airstar (The Italian Sicce PSK -2500) any quieter than the regular sicce PSK- 2500? the main reason i love the i-tech is because with the tunze i had to make sure i was getting bubble to notice it was on. compare to the sicce that use to be on there, where i could hear it in the next room and after break-in

you can always do a wm k2 skimmer, but i do also like the atb. Both john and victor provide great service and have extremely well built products. You cant go wrong with either. If it were me i would go with the warner marine k2 from marinedepot. Great price and great product.

Warner Marine K-2 10 Inch Cone Protein Skimmer w/ VBT Technology

if you plan to keep lots of fish....then this would be great

I can't afford that powerful a skimmer... unless I can find one used. I guess I'll just cut back on fish.

think of it this way....if you upgrade you'll be ready. If money is the issue, i can understand. I plan to get one in the future but my warner marine as-200 should do for now. I also have a bm 200 that i swap out every month when i clean them. I always thought if i sold both i can afford this one
