I think I have spotted the beginnings of an aiptasia outbreak... what do I do? I've some research on a aiptasia eating filefish, and I would love to add one, but would it be okay in a 20 gallon long? Also one it eats the aiptasia do I feed it frozen mysis?

They work ok,I had two in my tank. One ate my zoas, however they did get rid of the aptasia. I got rid of the one that was eating the zoas. The remaining filefish has been a model citizen. He pretty much eats anything I feed the tank. So long story short, it’s hit or miss with filefish. They did the job plus some in my case. I would take a chance on them. At least you will be free of the pest. On a side note they are pretty ugly in my opinion and pretty much everyone who see’s it has the same thought.
Keep in mind that just because you see an aiptasia doesn't necessarily mean it will turn into a plague. I would focus on killing the ones you can see. If you notice them starting to pop up everywhere, then you may want to look into getting some livestock that will help with them.

I have tried Berghia nudis, peppermint shrimp, file fish and a laser. The berghia did a great job until the all disappeared( I think my wrasses ate them). Peppermint shrimp I did not have luck with. Filefish did a good job eating them until I saw him take a chunk out of a scoly. If you try a file fish they are super easy to catch so no worry there( I have a 220g and I just scooped it out with a small colander) The laser I really like but it only works if you can see the whole aptasia. If you just see it’s tentacles sticking out of a rock the laser won’t get it. Your best bet may be to superglue them. I use to do that before I had such a large system.

Not sure how others do it but if you have a couple of aptasia in hard to reach places, put some superglue when they retract into their little crevice to seal them inside. I usually use the superglue GEL and put the bottle in the water and squirt some gel out into their crevice if the rock is too big to take out.

I'd try the superglue. The kalkwasser spray and the mujuano(sic) electric apparatus never worked well for me. A copperband butterfly did the trick in my system, but not practical in a 20 gallon tank.
