I ordered a salifert test kit for the big 3.

Also a better nitrate test.

Turned down my light intensity by quite a bit.

Salifert tests came in. They look a bit more complex than api. I have to read these instructions.

Tested the following

Salifert
No3 15

Red sea
Kh 8.4-8.7
Mg 1600 ppm
Cal 500 ppm

I think i did the tests right

Your calcium and mag are high but not high enough to do damage and all is spot on in most cases. How are you testing phosphates. API phosphate sucks and is not accurate. Use a Hanna or the Red Sea for a better result. Lighting and flow can be the issue. Monti likes medium light 150-250 par and moderate flow I’m my tanks

It actually seems to be doing pretty well since I moved it to a higher flow area, a couple inches down, and turned down my lights, polyps opening a bit more and I think I'm seeing some growth.

I'll keep things moving the way they are, it seems like everything is in line with where it should be.

Just dealing with a little cyano on the sand but it's still a new tank so its almost expected.

What salt are you using for calcium and mag being that high or what are you dosing. How big of a tank?

Someone gave me a bottle of purple up. I use RO/DI water but our town is notorious for high calcium content in the water so out may be carryover. I get all my water from the lfs. I think they use instant ocean.

Tank is 55 gallon

Calcium is fine, mag is the most commmon test error.

Inbalnces are generally not a problem.
Rapid addition of mag could be.

Sounds like you may have solved the prob. Great to hear.
Finnicy lil thing aren't they.

After spending money on tests to find out I was doing it right all along it was the free change.

Small price for a sense of security.

Now to sit back and watch it grow. I'm hoping it does well enough to frag in a few months and attach another piece on the other side.

It's part of the learning curve we all go through.

I like learning though. I never knew it was this complex when I started.

Nice release from my stressful job.
Puzzles are a great thing.

Is still constantly go back to old articles on chemistry and light and keep learning new things.

I think it's looking pretty happy now.

Now I think I've killed it. It was doing great.

I introduced some soft corals.

3 days later, this

Checked params, levels are fine, nitrate is a little high but its been that way.

Lps and softies are not only doing fine, they're noticeable growing.
