I Think I'm Up the Sump Without a Paddle :(

Ok...So I have the Synergy Reef Shadow Overflow V2 and a Trigger Systems Sapphire 26. I tried to find out how to plumb this before actually plumbing it because I wasn't sure it would work. I'm thinking I was right and maybe it wont.

I have the primary with a gate valve, the secondary without, but they then both join before going into the single input in my sump. I believe this is creating an issue with the silent aspect of this style overflow.

Thoughts?

Couldn’t you just drop your secondary line into the second chamber? It’s just a emergency in case of overflow? If you did a Herbie style.

But what do I know. I’m in the same boat. Never plumbed a sump. I’ll find out soon enough too!

Again. I know nothing! Just trying to learn too. So the Synergy overflow has 3 drains. Could you cap one drain, only using 2, then make it a Herbie?

I’ll hope someone who knows what they are doing chimes in. I’m curious too.

The primary and secondary "t" into one to get into the sump. So my primary siphon is pulling air from the secondary. I think I need to find a way to get the secondary into the sump with some modifications. I'm guessing the sump with a single input is not capable of working with a Bean Animal Overflow?

should have read the whole thread.. lol. Didn’t realize your dealing with 3 drains. You might try a add on sock holder, there are several different styles out there so you should be able to find one that will work with your sump.

Just split the lines and run them individually to the sump. Just because it only has one drain inlet doesn’t mean you can’t run a pipe straight into another section.

Yes.. Ideally in the first chamber if possible but inside second chamber would work if necessary.

As others have mentioned, secondary will work going into the skimmer section and keep your emergency drain where it is... Green for the secondary drain and red for the emergency, easy peasy

You could even glue a PVC pipe support the same height or close to the same height of the blue trim and secure the secondary to prevent any vibrations

Ok, not too bad of an issue with your guys help. I ordered a Version 1 sock holder from FishOfHex.com (great follow btw), and am going to run the secondary drain, probably with a silicone hose into the sock in the skimmer section. I'm hoping it will fit there with my Simplicity 240DC skimmer. If it doesn't I'll just flip it and send it into the Refugium area, but I am really going to try to avoid that as I want some Chaeto down the road.

I'll be updating my build thread and YouTube videos over the next few weeks. So much has changed from my original plan/direction. This is awesome! Loving it!

Sorry I’m late to the discussion... I have the exact same sump, a Trigger Sapphire 26. I’m using a Modular Marine with three drains in the external box, similar to the Shadow. Because of the tight sump and single drain into the sock compartment, I ended up capping one of the drains and run the setup as a 2 drain Herbie as opposed to the 3 drain Beananimal. The trickle drain runs into the middle (refugium) section of the sump. Had I wanted to run the third drain for a Beananimal, i would have plumbed that drain into the return section because of the limited sump space.

Are you utilizing the skimmer section for anything?

My original layout had the skimmer in the skimmer section and my Turbo’s L2 ATS over the refugium section. However, my DT is relatively small at 57 gallons and the scrubber was running too efficiently. I recently took it offline to try to get my tank to run dirtier to bump up nutrients. With the skimmer in the middle section, I now have feed pump to my chiller and UV in the skimmer section. Not having the skimmer blocking the filter sock area has been quite welcome, as changing socks with the skimmer in the way quickly got annoying.
