I Think I'm Up the Sump Without a Paddle :(

My original layout had the skimmer in the skimmer section and my Turbo’s L2 ATS over the refugium section. However, my DT is relatively small at 57 gallons and the scrubber was running too efficiently. I recently took it offline to try to get my tank to run dirtier to bump up nutrients. With the skimmer in the middle section, I now have feed pump to my chiller and UV in the skimmer section. Not having the skimmer blocking the filter sock area has been quite welcome, as changing socks with the skimmer in the way quickly got annoying.

Heres my original layout.

Nice evolution, makes a lot of sense, I have similar challenges going on but am a bit earlier in the process.
I have a 65g display and the stand door in the front wasn’t big enough to fit the sump through so I added doors to both sides before setting up the tank. I have pretty decent access to the socks and skimmer on one side and the ato on the other. I would like to try chaeto in the fuge section once I get some bio-mass going.

Those side doors very nice and convenient for access during maintenance. :)
My tank is kiddie cornered in the tank room so I didn’t have that option. :(

I’m kind of a gear hoarder. Most of it is second hand, so I didn’t spend a ton, relatively speaking. I’m thrifty like that! :D I’m a loooong way from using the CaRx set up. Gonna be dosing 2 part for a while. Fighting a white slime bacterial bloom as a result of running too clean with the ATS. Slowly improving though.

I’m currently more into buying stuff than anything else...not good. Lol. I imagine once I get more livestock the scales should tip a bit to watching the system develop. Can you show a shot of the display?

Thanks! That was before the white slime bacteria got out of hand. It’s okay though, I do enjoy the tinkering and troubleshooting of the new tank build process. Seeing the slow improvements as you adapt to your tank‘s needs is very a rewarding experience and why I love this hobby. :D

Really late to the party here but I run a shadow overflow on the trigger 26. I just abandoned the filter sock setup and ran both drains into the lid hole there. So that little 3x3 drain area is unused. Hope this helps, late or not!

I wonder....is there a square sock that could fit in there? The "removable sock holder" allows quite a bit of unfiltered water to pass by the sock into the sump.
