So I'm stocking my 74 gallon tower (24x24x30) I want a blue fish that's an open water swimmer with action...

Current stock is black snowflake clown, flame hawkfish, orchid dottyback, pink spot goby.

I want to add a damsel as my last fish..

Considering starcki, orangetail, or springers, possibly azure...

I understand these are generally less aggressive.. any thoughts on which is better.. less likely to go nuts etc??

Really like the orangetail as #1...

I really like my Starcki. I had yellow tails and an azure a few years ago and they were great too. If you looking for the cheapest the yellow tails are the way to go.

Yellow tail best as a single or would multiple be better.. again only a 24x24 footprint to work with..

I like the starcki a ton I just can't seem to find one... DD had a few back in the fall

All the ones you listed are quite peaceful. I would also add C. arnazae as an awesome, peaceful, mostly blue damael.

Would I have the space for 2 or 3 yellow tails? Or best to get a single??

You have the space for 2-3, but I recommend getting individuals from different species, as this decreases the chances of forming prs and spawning, because spawning damsels are much more aggressive.

Interesting.. I didn't think that was even an option.. thinking they would be more aggressive toward another damsel...

I currently have 5 yellowtail Damsels in my 120 gallon system, they will fight once in awhile but not an issue, I like them as they give more color to the tank. Other fish I have are adult Tomini Tang, juvenile yellow tang, adult maroon clown, adult flame angel.

The Flame is the meanest one, even it was added last (got it from another reefer)

A school of chromis always looks nice. Just be sure to QT them, as they are prone to uronema - a disease you never want to get in your DT.

I have 6 azures in my 90. Fun and bright. I planned on 5 with usually 1 death but all 6 have survived so there are pairs now. I'm gonna have to remove one and take to the LFS to dump the apple cart. I've had the regular yellow tails before and these azures definitely have some personality for sure and the fins and scales are much more textured. Each will find a hidey-hole to claim and hang out there and periodically poke around the reef. When someone else swims by they'll usually chase them off, so it's a never ending reef roaming race with them. LOL

Nice... my tank is 24x24x30.. could I swing a trio? Or would that not be enough space for them to spread out etc???

Personally, I'd add a second black snowflake to mate the pair and skip the damselfish. You could get away with 3 as small as they are, even at medium size like those in the pic.
