I want a damsel

I'd like to add a blue fish so I've considered a damsel. Why would you recommend 3 vs a single? I figured if I went with a single yellow tail he'd have no one to fight with.
My other fish currently are: clarkii clown pair, lubbocks fairy wrasse, yellow coris wrasse, a firefish, and a rhomboid wrasse in QT. 75g tank

We researched and found a Kupang damsel similar to the standard blue with yellow tail......but the Kupang yellow goes down the lower body into the abdominal area plus the full yellow tail... these are reef safe....

I should have mentioned that.. a single one will get bored and focus on other fish eventually... the three that I have are too worried about each other to even notice the other fish... it keeps them occupied

I think are all reef safe which only means they don't eat corals and/or cuc...

It also seems that damsels prefer groups of odd numbers. I have 4 in my tank, and they split into a group of 3 with one man out. I've heard of similar behavior with chromis.

It's nice to hear some success stories with damsels. They're a unique fish with really interesting little personalities and while they aren't a good fit for many, they can be great additions to some systems.

I've had my 3 azure for a lo g time and they are doing great. There is 1 larger who seems to be in charge of the group and kind of gets along with the other 2. The 2 smaller will not tolerate each other and keep to their space - if they spot each other they chase to about a foot away from their hole then turn back. None of them bother any other fish in the tank, including the Clowns.

I've had a single Azure in my tank for over 3 years with no problems. He lives in the same rock pile as my firefish with no aggression between them at all. He is actually pretty much the lowest on the pecking order except for the Royal Gramma who lives on the other end of a 6ft tank. 11 wrasses in the tank and all are ignored or higher on the pecking order than he is.

The four in my tank have all staked out their own spots in my 125 gallon system. Three of them seem to huddle/bicker amongst themselves, but they seem to leave the odd man out alone. They are all yellowtail damsels, and this is the second time I've kept them in a reef system. The are angels compared to a lemonpeel damsel I once inherited!

I had 2 yellow tails in a 30 gal. One of them was terrible. He took chunks out of my bicolor angel fish's tail. He beat up the other damsel too. Finally I gave him away. The other one has been great never bothering anyone.

I have a Yellow Tail in my 135 and it was his tank for a long time with the previous owner (there were two 4 stripes, a blue devil, and 3 other yellow tails as well. ) My guy got lucky as he was the hardest to catch so I let him be.... the others went to LFS. He is in with some small green chromis, a B cardinal, a baby valentini puffer and 2 tangs....He is very mellow...halfheartedly chased the Chromis for like 5 minutes upon their intro to the tank and that was it. Nothing more with anyone at all and actually shares a cave with my Yellow Tang...I hope he stays mellow as I love the splash of color and personality he brings to the tank.

I've got a trio of azures (I think that the Kupang is the same fish ... or at least very similar!) in my 65gallon. What I believe are two males have territories at diagonal opposite localities, and the third fish shuttles back and forth.

They have spawned in the past - much to the delight of my coral beauty, who snuck under the male's nose the next day and ate all the eggs. Those two have been at odds ever since, but it's all bluff and display.
