Ich in my DT?

I have the hospital tank up. Over lunch, I put salt in. After work, my plan is to take out all of my live rock, and catch all of the fish.

Should I do one at a time and fresh water dip each for five minutes, or just move them all to the HT and start ramping up the copper? Also, is it important to give them a bath in medicine or should I get to copper as soon as I can?

Dip them one at a time, with new fresh water each time. If you have Ruby reef rally on hand it would be beneficial to give them a bath in it, in order to help prevent infection. If you don't have it on hand already you are going to be better off starting to ramp the copper up. Don't delay copper treatment if you can't get RRR locally etc. Just watch for secondary infections from parasite entry wounds and have antibiotics on hand JIC.

I do not know how giving them all a bath in RRR would work for me since they need to stay in it for an extended period of time. My only option would be to set up another tank, which would require time to heat it up and mix the salt in.

I cannot put the bath medicine into the HT, can I? Let them soak for a while, then put in the copper.

I did a little reading. With all my fish, would I be able to put them all in a 5 gallon bucket? That does not sound like a good idea to me.

I would not put them all in a bucket, no.

You could setup one of your smaller tanks. And bathe them in batches a few at a time.

I put them all right into the HT. So, after finishing reconstructing my rock work, it is time to put in copper.

Good luck and I definitely agree you’ve got some nasty velvet there!

The kole rang lost his purple/blue and was whiteish orange. He started swimming by the powerhead too. Hopefully, the copper starts helping him right away.

It looks like there is some ammonia in my tank already. I just put in fritz zyme turbo start today and I also just put a little prime in. I will have to see what the badge looks like tomorrow and maybe put some more prime in.

Hey I just want to make sure we are all on the same page here. Copper goes with the fish. Don't mix prime and copper. Prime will make the copper much more toxic.

Maybe by your previous post you just meant you were going to fix rocks, then move to QT for copper, but then I saw your post about prime.

Oh no. I put in less than one-fourth a cap full.

I must have read another article that didn't say this: "
You can perform a water change to reduce ammonia; or alternatively, use an ammonia reducer such as Amquel or Prime (so long as no medications are present)." Otherwise, I remember wrong and made a mistake.

How bad did I shoot myself in the foot?

You put 1/4 capful of copper in the tank with prime?

100% water change ASAP! Mixing ammonia detoxifiers with copper is DEADLY.

Also, I’d skip to Dr Tims or BioSpira in lieu of other bacteria in a bottle. I’ve never had any other kind work except those two. I’ve not tried the one you mention, however but I imagine now isn’t the time I’d gamble it.

Sorry, but at least we caught it early!

No. Here is what I did. All of my calculations were based on a 55g tank.

Five hours ago I put in half a bottle of Fritz-Zyme Turbo Start. The bottle treats a 100g tank.

Two hours later, all of the fish were moved into the HT.

One hour later I put in the rest of the live bacteria (the bottle said it is safe to do up to 5x the recommend dose) because my alert badge was showing "alert" or .06 ppm ammonia.

Thirty minutes later I put in 1/4 cap full of prime which is 1/4 the recommendation for a 55g. It equated to 1.25 mL.

Fifteen minutes later I did the recommended 20 drops of Cupramine per 10.5 gallons. So, I put in 100 drops.

That happened one hour and fifteen minutes ago.

Yes, 100% water change ASAP for sure buddy! I'd net the fish out and put them in a bucket to perform the change!

I only put in 1.25 mL of prime. Even with that small amount it is still toxic? Mainly I am curious if it is toxic all the way down to a single drop of ammonia reducer.

Not a risk I would take, but yes.

Also, prime is not a pure ammonia reducer. It just has the added benefit of detoxifying ammonia.

I read that an ammonia reducer with make cupramine 10x stronger. So, if that is based off the reccomended amount of prime: I only put in 1/4 the prime so it would be 3-4x stronger. Also, I only put in half the amount of copper that will make the tank therapeutic. So, that would mean it is 1.5-2x as strong as the normal therapeutic value.

That is all mathematical thought (I program for a living, this is just how I think.) Does it translate to that in terms of chemistry?

1.5-2X cupramine therapeutic level is most likely HIGHLY toxic.

I wouldn't take a chance, I know that's not what you want to hear, but if it were me I'd definitely do a 100% WC.

I have about 30g rodi water ready. So, I would need to put salt in and heat it up. Would that be enough of a water change?
