I have a rabbitfish I got that is in QT. It had some white spots/streaks develop on its tail and fins. The fish is eating, but ever since I got it it has always breathed very rapidly. That always made me suspicious it was shipped to me with something. As soon as I saw the white spots/streaks, I dropped in CP. nothing has seem to change since and the spots keep popping up. Below are some pics I managed to take. I also noticed a bit of red on the tail. Was thinking of throwing in triple sulfa, but wasn’t sure if I can combine meds since CP is in the water column now.

Not a big fan of mixing meds unless the situation is in your opinion - dire. That being said you can dose antibiotics with CP. Just not sure if it’s ok for Sulfa based meds. @Humblefish

You can mix Triple Sulfa with CP. FYI; I can't tell what's wrong from the pics.

Sorry I couldn't get a good picture. The redness looks like the redness that you see here from this DD Mag FF. You see that redness by the yellow part of the tailfin. This Rabbitfish has the same thing.

The other stuff is white streaks and spots on the fins. It looks like it may be dropping if, which tells me it's probably ich. It is still eating like crazy.

Bacterial infections are running rampant in the industry these days. Caution is the word. As Humblefish has noted, it's very common for fish to develop bacterial infections from Ich/velvet due to the many insertion points of the parasites. Because of this, he advises to treat with an antibiotic to help the fish's immune system during treatment.

My one spot foxface has been in my DT for almost 2 years now and has always had that little bit of a red spot by the tail fin.
That makes me feel a lot better. Bacterial infections are usually pretty nasty. I figured since there is only CP in the tank right now that he would have been worse. So maybe I'm just dealing with ich. I am concerned out on how fast it breathes but I haven't had a small rabbitfish before (this one is about 2").

Okay - so I think i can rule out a bacterial infection as I think he would be in bad condition if that was the case. I see some raised white dots on his side. Could these be flukes. It’s nearly impossibly to get a good picture without a good camera and lens. I’m thinking I should start General Cure in the good. Can someone clarify the mix for general cure + focus when mixing with food? I want to make sure I don’t overdose. Can I feed like usual without having to do the water change like I would with focus + metro?

Also - its rapid breathing weirds me out. I tried to get a video - hopefully it helps. You cant see the dots on its body because the video quality isn’t great and it’s on the white part of its body.

@ReefWithCare Raised white dots can mean a lot of different things, with velvet being most likely. Flukes are translucent (they only turn white once exposed to freshwater) and are unlikely to be seen on a light colored fish.

When using General Cure in food, mix 1 scoop of GC + 1 scoop of Seachem Focus per 1 tablespoon of frozen or pellets. You can use use the little scoop that comes in the Focus canister.

Cool - ya the focus scooper works well. Do you use the tablets or did you get the 850G jar for general cure?

Velvet would suck - I guess not much has happened since CP was put in

I make my own "General Cure" by combining pharmaceutical grade metronidazole & praziquantel. I use the same metro dosage as General Cure (25 mg/gal); but prefer a higher praziquantel dosage (9.5 mg/gal).

Oh ya I thought about that. So you just mix the two ratios. Ya I’ve seen a few places where you can get them. That would probably be cheaper than buying API jar which is like $130 [emoji79]

Fins almost look like lymph is beginning but I can’t see much definitively due to the photos, as mentioned.

Ya I need a better camera - it is normal for a rabbitfish to breathe that fast when you look at the video? The only fish I have seen breathe that fast are tiny ones like damsels

It usually means atresss, disease, or ammonia. How are you testing for ammonia?
