Ich on Rabbitfish?

They are both "pooping machines" i.e. nitrate factories. :p I guess tangs are more popular because they are considered prettier.
Ha! I need nitrate factories right now in my DT. My nitrates keeping bottoming out. Rabbitfish have so much more personality. If it wasn't for it's spikes this fish would probably be chill enough for me to pet it and I could hand feed it right now if I wanted to. It recognizes everyone in the house, shows no aggression to fish, and the damsels are scared of it lol. I feel like I have a Triggerfish again with it's personality. I do think the reef safe with caution label is the other factor :oops:

@Humblefish

One of the damsels just died. It was fine this morning and swimming around looking for food. Stepped away for a little and found it on the powerhead. Here’s the video and picture

All the other fish seem okay. Freaked out because damsels don’t just randomly die.

@ReefWithCare I can see white marks on both the rabbitfish and damsel, which suggests this is something transmissible. My guess is bacterial, but brook/uronema are two other possibilities.

So, what I would do in your shoes is dose Kanaplex (antibiotic) + Metroplex (treats brook/uronema). You can also add Furan-2 to this mix to widen the spectrum of treatment. Do this for at least 10 days.

@Humblefish - I have CP and PraziPro in the tank right now. Do I need to remove them before doing Kanaplex?

I have triple Sulfa on hand - would that work? Right now I am feeding metro soaked food? Should I stop that and just drop metro directly into the tank?

How long since you last dosed prazi?

I would probably do a large WC (don't forget to add back CP) before dosing ABX then.

ABX? What ABX are you referring to? I have triple sulfa and was wondering if I could use that instead. How large of a WC? Do I need to dose PraziPro again since I just did one round?

ABX = Antibiotics

Triple sulfa is fine to use, but you're still going to need to add metronidazole (Metroplex) just in case this is brook.

I would do about a 50% WC, and get back to dosing Prazipro after this infection clears as it takes priority right now.

Got it. I’m prepping water tonight and will change it tomorrow (ran out of water when I changed before PraziPro)

They have been getting metro medicated food since Friday. I’ll plan on continuing to do that along with replenishing the CP levels.

Do I need to worry more about ammonia using anti bacterial meds now?

Did a 50% water change and dosed the Triple Sulfa. I fed them metro soaked brine shrimp before I did the water change.

The damsels seem a brighter blue now (closer to the colors you normally see online). Rabbitfish is now swimming to the top of the tank. I have an air stone in the tank since the prazi went in. Maybe there is less oxygen in the tank now.

The triple sulfa instructions said to dose again in 24 hrs then do a water change 24 hrs after that and repeat. Is that recommended? Seemed a little too much

Yes, sulfa drugs don't remain active in the water for very long.

Hi All - Quick update. I have in the 3rd dose of Triple Sulfa (this thing burns a ton of SW lol).

Rabbitfish has been spot free and not rapid breathing since 9/30/18.

One damsel appears to be healthy. The other damsel looks pale. They are all eating though and continuing to feed frozen food with Metro Combined. CP is at 50/mg Gal

Quick update --- the Triple Sulfa treatment is all done.

Rabbitfish is very healthy now, spot free, breathing normally since 9/30/18

One damsel is a nice dark blue very healthy and has grown in QT

Other damsel appears to be happy and healthy, though pale.

I'm scheduled to remove the CP on 10/15 (They will be 30 days in CP by then) and they will go into the remaining 14 day observation period. I am still feeding the fish metro dosed food.

At this point, if there was something like Brook/Uroema in the tank I would have lost the other fish by now right? Or at least I would start losing them once the CP is out of the system?

My guess after going through all of this, my guess was there was a bacterial infection because all 3 of them got better after the Triple Sulfa was dosed.
