Ich, velvet, or?

Oh gotcha. Yes, I know you can’t do copper or cp in the DT. Thank you for letting me know though! You never know. I did get him out of the display, but my 20 gal isn’t big enough for all my fish. So I have two of my 3 triggers in there being treated. I’m hoping metro does what it says it does to treat and protect the other fish. Their box and information on it says it does. I know it’s not the 100% proven way of doing it. Just don’t have any other choice at this time unfortunately.

@Humblefish do you have any thoughts on this? It’s going to be. A lot of work and potentially the wrong treatment if I get this wrong. Just want to be as sure as I can be on this before proceeding. :)

I've also wondered about Metroplex treating ich and velvet as well, as it's claimed on the box/website. I've asked about it before too, but no one really answered the question. And everyone just keeps saying copper. So I assume it's not effective since no one here seems to have used metroplex to treat ich.

Well, since I don’t have a choice currently I’ll let you know what happens. I got the pink tail out of the tank, but if it’s ich it will be all over the tank at this point. So the other fish should be getting symptoms soon. I’m treating them with metro and focus now 2x a day in hopes that it will help.

Update: A buddy of mine came over who used to work at the Rainforest Cafe and his wife who worked at Shedd Aquarium and we did a wet mount under a microscope and came up empty handed. (Could be due to the Paraguard in the water.) Tried getting water in the substrate of the DT as well and didn’t find anything that would look concerning. However, the black trigger is now showing way more dots on his body and head. He has been in Paraguard for a week and a half now and should be getting better, not worse. Both of them are at a loss as well as to what it could be. Pics of the black trigger below. Again, no flashing, eating well, acting bold, and seem healthy otherwise.

Just looked at Seachem's site on paraguard. Says the fish needs to be in paraguard for 28 days with no break for it to work.

If it is ich, not sure if paraguard only works on ich when it's in the free swimming stage. Sometimes if it's embedded in the fish, the meds won't reach it and you have to wait for their cycle to complete to drop off the fish.

How are your other fish doing?

#reefsquad Maybe someone else can confirm of this is ich or not.

That is Ich you're dealing with. Paragaurd wont treat unfortunately.

What other livestock do you have and are they showing any symptoms?

Read this thread, it discusses eradication vs management of the parasite.

I agree that looks like ich on the trigger.

I don't know if Seachem's Paraguard works on ich or not. They don't tell you what's in it, other than malachite green (which people do use for FW ich) and a proprietary aldehyde (which could be lots of different chemicals).

The paraguard says it works for ich, but I have cupramine on standby in case it doesn’t work. He's been in it for two weeks now, but I just put the pink tail trigger in with him too. So that starts the clock over to be safe. Other fish I have in the main tank are: Christmas wrasse, Moyers wrasse, blue line cleaner wrasse, blue throat trigger, and a pair of clowns. I have a UV sterilizer coming to possibly help with the main tank. I’m feeding the metro and focus as well to the main tank and the qt tank. Also putting Garlic guard, selcon, and vita chem in their food.

No other symptoms with the other fish just yet. List of fish on the above post. I just found it odd that we couldn’t see the ich parasite on a wet mount scraped off the fish or in the dt.

The only other thing it could be is Lymphocytiscwhich is a viral infection, with pristine water quality and nutrition it will keep the immune system of the fish strong enough to fight off naturally.

Again, paragaurd wont treat ich even though it states it will. You will need to treat with copper or CP but its pointless to treat if you have ich in your main display, copper is toxic and will have a negative impact the fishes immune system. You're better off feeding vitamin enriched foods to boost him up before acclimating into display.

Gotcha. Well, I will just keep feeding him the vitamins until he isn’t showing symptoms of ich any more and then go from there. I have the cupramine, but have the paraguard in the water and they can’t be mixed. Like you said though, it’s pointless if I can’t make the system ich free.

I don’t think it’s Lymphocystis because his fins aren’t showing anything. I think you’re right about ich. Just couldn’t believe that we couldn’t find any of the parasites on the fish or in the tank under a microscope.
