Could be, I did buy 10 snails about 3 weeks ago. Hope that isn't it, I put half the snails in my 30. No losses there yet.

Cross your fingers, the concern is ich or velvet encyst in on the shell, so one snail could be carrying while another is not (assuming no contaminated water entered either tank)
I wonder if its worthwhile to move the snails to the already infected tank.. Maybe @Humblefish or @melypr1985 can comment on that..

Probably not. Any damage is likely done.

Can velvet and brook remain dormant for long periods?

Only at very low temperatures. Although, the lifecycle of brook is not completely understood.

Odds are whatever this is was brought in as tomonts (cysts) on the snails' shells. The timeline (3 weeks) lines up more with ich, than velvet or brook.

I think that's either velvet or brook, based on the photo & timeline of deaths to the other fish.

Each fish will need to be given a FW dip + chemical bath + placed in a QT & treated with copper. If you don't have access to formalin or acriflavine, you'll need to dose metronidazole with copper to treat for the possibility of brook. Seachem Metroplex or Fishvet Metro-MS both contain metronidazole.

No. it would be better to leave them in the tank wtihout any fish so the whole thing can be "cleansed"

That's what I thought I was suggesting.. when he said that he split his snails between 2 tanks and no losses in the 30, I was thinking there were fish that possibly hadn't been exposed in the 30 and I was suggesting to remove the snails from them. Guess I misread something...

Great support you have there - it will make all the difference throughout!

Most meds are pretty light; getting an overnight or 2-day shipment shouldn't be overly prohibitive. You could stock up on a few other meds in the same order as well, if you wish. @Humblefish has a good post on that.

ohhh. No I think I missread what you were suggesting But really, I think it's safest to assume all the snails were contaminated with the parasite and treat everybody.

Seems like, over the past year, my tank went from a source of joy and tranquility to a source of frustration and sorrow. Reefing is a bipolar experience. The only thing that keeps me going is the next high. Must be just around the corner now.

I couldn't agree with you more. I really like how you worded those last few sentences. I'm going to print it out and tape it on the wall in my fish room so when I get frustrated I can remember that there IS JOY in this hobby.

API General Cure also contains metronidazole, and I know I've seen that medication at Petco/smart.

Even if you can't get metro or formalin/acriflavine, still do the FW dips and get all your fish in copper ASAP.

You need to move with a sense of urgency to save the rest of these fish.

Wifc drove 160 miles round trip for me today. Got some Cupramine and Erethromycin. Nobody had formalin or anything equvilent.

I may have to order formalin from amazon. Do you know offhand how much to add per gallon?

Update: The clown is in a hospital tank. She is eating well and actively swimming. The tang and trigger are still in the dt. They appear to be completely asymptomatic. I'm reluctant at this time to put them in with the clown because the tang would finish it off. Also, they are more skittish and would not be easy to catch amongst the rockwork. Is it possible they could remain healthy and, if so, could they infect other fish in the future?

It's possible they could remain looking healthy for a time, but if this is velvet that won't last. Any and all new fish will be infected with it no matter if it's brook or velvet. Whether they live or die right away or a bit later will depend on that fish's immune system and stress level.

Fish with immunity can also be asymptomatic carriers.
