Ich

Focus and metroplex I'm going to soak food. I don't want him to die. I'm hoping I can get this medicine still in him and him survive. I know odds are against me. I'm stuck in a bad situation. My parents won't allow to put another tank in the house so I gotta treat in my DT. How do you get rid of velvet in your DT with fish in it? Is it even possible or am I ******?

The odds are very low, but anything is possible. To get velvet out you would have to QT and leave the display fallow for at least 6 weeks. If this is your only option then throw everything you have at the metroplex deal. Document everything as well so we can all learn a bit more.

If the fish dies from a freshwater bath it was a goner anyway. By the time fish are covered like you showed, it's typically too late. The damage to the gills is irreparable and the fish will suffocate, as mentioned. I feared this days ago. At this stage I think it's too late but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try, miracles do happen. I've saved some fish I thought for sure were dead. I showed @Humblefish a video of an Achilles tang badly afflicted with velvet that laid on the sand for days. It didn't move for two days, but it was breathing. It made what seemed like a full recovery over a week or so afterward only to randomly stop eating and die 6 months later. I'm guessing the damage had long lasting affects. But I've had stories like that end well long-term in the past

Thank you for that. I just gotta try and stay positive. I just love these fish and I hate. It being able to help them. Tomorrow I'm gonna set up a hospital tank and buy a fish trap and hope to catch some fish at a time and just treat the fish that remain in the tank with the medicated food.

How can I get rid of velvet in my DT if I can't remove the fish?

If you can set up a hospital tank then coppersafe is far and away your best bet imo. And the faster the better.

I've removed all coral and most rock and treated with copper in the display and removed all of the copper later and added back the inverts -- but it's very difficult to do and unnecessary if you can find any other way. I don't recommend this course of action.

Unfortunately, you can't. The best you can do is try to boost your fish's immune system so that it doesn't impact them too harshly. This is very challenging if you want to maintain Tangs.

+1 While ich can sometimes be managed, velvet is a whole different ballgame. Even if some of your fish survive it and acquire immunity, one must assume they are still carriers capable of infecting any non-immune fish you introduce.

I guess once I get a tank cycle I'll start trapping fish with a fish trap butbright now and tomorrow I'll be medicating the fish and not the water. Still worried about my tang still breathing hard and stressed from the FW bath
