My fish have been going though this cycle for about a week now. They look fine, act normal, and eat fine all day. But in the afternoon a lot of them will start to get white spots all over them (I’m assuming ick) when I come home for lunch they all look completely fine like there’s no ick anymore. Then the whole process restarts. Before you suggest it, no I can’t pull everything out of my tank. Is the best corse of action to keep them eating and hope they fight it off? My LFS always tells me that ick can’t kill healthy fish that aren’t stressed. Are my fish stressed? Or is the lack of stress keeping them alive? Thanks.

Use vitamins regularly. My one tanks goes through it like that once in awhile as well. Maybe consider adding a cleaner shrimp or fish of some kind, if you dont have one already hopefully you should be good.

Thanks! Sounds good. What kind of live food can I feed? I switch between brine a mysis shrimp (they hate mysis but I make them eat it anyway)

What do you mean by vitamins?

Ich can kill fish.. i personally believe there are many strains.. some not as bad as others... its only partially stress and feeding... i lost 800$ in fish to ich over many months time.

Im a big advocate for hyposalinity since its what saved me from more loss and headache.

Well it hasn’t killed any yet... and I have a ton of coral so I don’t think I could do hypo-saltiness

Timeline sounds more like velvet than ich, could be very bad. How fine and how many white spots on each fish are we talking about?

Na ich does this too... Ive observed fish showing ich spots in the morning.. when fish sleep their not fighting off disease as well.. when they wake up i noticed the spots fall off or dissapear in a few hours.

Then repeat.. specially fish that are more resilient to ich.

What fish do you have btw, person who made the thread

It could be ich, hence my follow up questions of how many white spots and of what size. Pictures would be very helpful.

Uncountable on a single fish? Sounds like velvet, check the fish disease forum or post there. Would need a picture for a positive Id @Humblefish can confirm for you.

Sorry, I can't tell, would need a better picture. Either way tangs are fairly susceptible, and it's harder to get away with managing ich in smaller or overstocked tanks. @HotRocks could you help our friend here with a disease id?

He basically is referring to vitamins that you soak your frozen food like Selcon. I did have a similar issue like yours, what I did was soak food in Selcon and have different kind of frozen food: black worms, missis shrimp, brine shrimp, etc. Also soaked the food in Brithwell aquatics garlic, this helped too. Before someone jumps to said that ick can’t be cure with garlic or quality food, I just want to said that I know that will not cure the ick, but in my case it helped a lot to build the immune system of the fish and right now all fishes are doing good and after the issue I added four new fish and everyone is doing good. Has been already a year since the ick issue and my last introduction to the tank was three months ago and no signal of ick on any of the fishes.

I can't be 100% sure from the photos, but it sounds like Velvet. Some strains will only feed for 12 hours before dropping off, which might explain why the white spots come & go so frequently.
