Can anyone tell me what this is growing on my rock? Is it bad? Here are a couple different angles. Thank you for the help!

I have noticed that as well. But it does seem to do well with more feedings as well... doesn't seem to be terrible, except for the looks of it. Wondered if something would like to eat it.

A linka star fish will take care of that sponge? I want a blue one!

Double check. Its been a while. But have always thought from past research they fed on sponges and bacterias. And one of the reasons it's not good for most and especially young tanks.

The tanks been set up for 2.5 years. Well had an upgrade 6 months ago but things seem to have moved over and continued thriving. I will research and see if they do like sponges. I saw algae, and can feed them clam meat. Will have to make sure they won't eat my clam, but I don't think they do.

No. Generally stars have a specific diet. Non I know of are clam eaters.

Thanks for letting me know. Seems the blue linkia eat film algae and some other soft things. Some people have said they have eaten sponges, but diet didn't seem exactly overly known yet. I have a 120, so seems I have a big enough system to try one!

I had "skimmed" that article before, but read it through completely this time. It is helpful, doesn't confirm they eat sponges, but that they have done it, lots of the wording seems vague, which is fair as no one completely knows everything about these starfish. It is an animal I have had my eye on in the past, so I don't feel I would be adding it just for the sake that it could eat the sponges and then slowly starve but more of an animal I would like to have in my tank and if it also ate the sponges I would be happy.

Yea Ive always read mixed success stories on most stars. Seems the best best is an established tank.
I did like the admission in the article that no real study has been done on them.

If or "when" I get one, maybe I will keep a log and see how much success that helps me with! thank you for your help and suggestions wit the sponges.
