ID illness

Just to update, my lfs reached out to me and he thinks it is ick and told me about polyp labs treatment and since time is of the essence he thought this was my best option. I am on day 5 of 20 and already seen a lot of improvement. My Moorish idol did contract the parasite at day 2 and is already clear. My regal has 75% improvement so I am hoping that this can work. I will update as time goes on.

Fingers crossed! Just be aware that ich can wax and wane through its normal life cycle, and that may not be due to Polyp Labs Reef Medic. All "Reef Safe" medications have an issue where they are supposedly able to kill Cryptocaryon, yet not harm bacteria and other invertebrates. That is a very selective process that quite often isn't possible. They don't divulge the ingredient, but it seems to be a peroxide salt.

This will be my final update as I have now completed the polyp lab treatment and ran carbon for a additional week and have not seen any signs of the parasite in close to 3 weeks now and I did not loose a single fish or coral in the process. Only down fall is due to the lack of water changes, I have a huge algae bloom that will take a little while to remove. Thank you all for the suggestions and hopefully this won’t happen again.

Just remember that your tank is in essentially a fallow period where ich can become reinfective. The common timeframe given for fishless systems is 76 days, but I've seen it be less, around 45 days in some cases. Be sure to have some polyp lab meds on hand in case of a relapse.
