This guy came attached on my live rock from Gulf Live Rock. It was in bad shape months ago and just now it’s started to puff up and regain some color. This the is the best picture I could get due to its placement. Any ID? Is it a maze brain coral?

Looks like maybe a platygyra or a favites, but it’s hard to tell from the pics. Can you take one under white lights?

I can try when I get home. For what it is worth, the ridges are about 1/4" in height.

favia or platy, hard to see with blue lights. Could be a maze brain type there is a lot of different species that look like that in the caribbean.

It couldn’t be a Platygyra or favites, both aren’t Caribbean natives. We do have very close relatives of both though. I think it’s a Rose Coral; Manicina areolata. It’s in the family Faviidae and the subfamily Faviinae so it’s close to Favia. Search that and see if it matches, I’m not totally sure because I can’t see too well in pictures.

It’s a very pretty piece though and I’m jealous, I love Caribbean hard corals just hard to get.
