ID whats on my tank

Week or so ago I did a 4gal water change in my 36gal tank. While u was messing with it u pulled some rock out and hit it with a toothbrush to get off the old hair alge I missed when I put the rock in the tank (rock came from local reefer who was out of the hobby due to said alge bloom. Rock sat out of his tank in the sun for like 2 weeks, then my cold garage for anothet 2-3 weeks). I had a small rock avalanche but all was good. The next day I noticed something on the glass, I wrote it off as a sad part of the avalanche. Well last night I noticed that they were EVERYWHERE. They look like lil jellyfish without the dangling tenticles. Some are completely clear, others look look they have sand in them

The first showed up in my tank about a week ago, very small. Thought it was a scratch in the tank from rock cleaning and a slight avalanche. Last fish went into the tank Dec 29. Jan 3 I put some rubble and some sand I had purchased online. Last night had my first fish fatality. ..second fatality today...third isnt looking good.

This rock came from the same place as the sand and rubble. ..had some red coraline on it.....now is white and moldy looking

Cant see anything in those pictures but is sure sounds like hydroids to me.

They are small and im shooting pics on my camera phone.

They are not those, they do not have feet/tentacle. They are more like blobs

No drop in water level. ..lol

Im just at a loss at this point, no issues or concerns at all then I put the rubble, sand, and the other rock then this starts showing up and fish start to die

How old is ur tank? Did u cycle it with the rock in?

Fish have been in little over a month. Rock and was used and was not live anymore. Tank was filled and cycled using Instant Ocean Bio-spira. Fishe lived hapily water was always in check. Highest amonia i ever saw was .25, nitrite highest was less than .25 and nitrate highest was less than 40. All was well and good till about a week ago. I noticed something on the tank, thougjt it was just a scratch and didnt pay it much attention. Came less than a week aftee adding rubble, sand, and a small live rock all ordered from the same online retailer.

Now im down my 3yr olds clownfish, my fiji blue damsel, and my wife just inforned me her valentini puffer has succumbed to whatever this is. Probably a short end to the hobby for me, hearing a lot of "I told you so"s right now.

Sad this online retailer is taking no reaponsibility and finding every excuse they can to say its not their fault of their product, and are dodging everything. Less than $20 order and whatever it has done to my tank on it has killed $60+ worth of fish and had broken my 3yr olds heart

And woke up this morning to the rest of my fish dead. Snails and peperment shrimp are just fine, so whatever this is only seems to kill fish. Had enough disappointment from my 3yr old and now sleeping on the couch thanks to, as my wife calls it "wasting money on a stipud fish tank".

You would think i woulda known better...website gives no phone # or physical address that I can find anywhere...but they are site sponsors...and now they have cost this reefer the hobby

From what ive read i would have to say your tank wasnt cycled properly and you had a ammonia spike that most likely killed your fish. Even using like rock amd live sand can last months before your able to add fish to a salt water system. So starting a tank with dry everything would take many more months then normal to properly cycle. I would suggest not completely starting over but to add a clean up crew like snales and hermits and all them to clean and work for at least 2 weeks the whole time adding a lil bit of flake food each day to get the tank getting the idea. Then after those two weeks were up and your water tested ok i would add one hardy fish to check the cycle and after two weeks if every thing was ok i slowly add fish no more the two at a time and wait at least two weeks between adding fish.

Sounds like your tank isn't finished cycling and the fish were just added too fast. Adding additional rock and sand will cause it to restart the cycling process. The pic looks like hydroids. Their population should dwindle down as cycling progresses. Don't give up!
