Was told it was an acan when I got it but now after buying another one yesterday I’m not so sure ‍♂️

Looks like favites/micro favites

Do you have any clearer photos? If it was sold to you as an acan, chances are it's actually micromussa, as some species of micromussa were formerly acanthastrea.

I’ll have to look and see or try and get some this afternoon/evening

From looking at the flesh, it looks like a micromussa (acan). However, I don’t see separations between each polyp that you would see in a micromussa.

First pick looks of micromussa second obviously acan. Two totally different genera.
What the hobby commonly calls acan is actually a species of micromussa. True acans are called echinata by the hobby, although they are not necessarily acanhastrea echinata. There is also an acan species that looks like a lobophyllia.

This is all so confusing ‍♂️

Also referred to as favia ?
that’s what I was originally thinking
No, it is not a favia. After a reclassification, favia became limited to the Atlantic, it is illegal to collect stony corals. Most indo-pacific favias have been reclassified to dipsastraea, with some being moved to favites and goniastrea.

Same coral just different pics lol
My bad thought when you said you bought two you were showing pics of both. Thats kinda crazy cause when our acans "echinata" get ticked they retreat from baseball size to golf ball size while still showing a reasonable amount of flesh not all flat like the pic.
