Idiot Alert

Don't give yourself a hard time. If you ask any reef keeper and they are honest to the question, we all did the same thing one or more times. I learn my lesson, you need at least double protection just in case the first fail ;)

I set my RODI running to fill a Brute bin. I then forgot about it and went out for the afternoon. What's probaby worse, it was my dear wife that discovered the flood.

I worry I might be too stupid for this hobby.
actually - this is not uncommon:). from personal experience. Don't sweat it - buy a carpet cleaner:) - or a good hardwood contractor:)

At least it was clean water! My hubby's pretty smart, but he still managed to dump 10 gallons of salt water on our livingroom carpet last night.

Done that too, many years ago. Due to my bad plumbing on that occasion though. It cost me a new living room carpet (it shrank).

i did that 2 weeks ago, had a pu mp in the brute and letting the water splash on top to help the salt mix, went to star bucks came home to find my ktichen all wet, Luckly it drains towards the sliding glass door so it helped the clean up

here done that, the ato on the bin has been a life saver . Put it on a smart outlet with a schedule to top it off weekly

Yeah, I've done that. After the first, uhh, three or four times, I started putting the jug in the bathtub so it didn't matter if it overflowed. Which is good, because I've overflowed it quite a few times.

(Small tank = smallish container to be filled with water = physically possible to lift into my bathtub.)

Yep, I’m sure everyone else has done this who makes their own water. Now I have a float valve and keep the water container where I make my water in the basement next to the floor drain as a double safety measure.

I’ve done the same thing just about did it the other day. I personally have to set alarms every 30 minutes to remind myself I’m making water it’s annoying but it helps

I, too, am a member of this club. However, I'm now the proud owner of a float valve, which I found out works very well.
just to be clear these fail all of the time. the key is to limit the possible volume that can enter into the tank

I have said this will never happen to me. It has happened at least eight times. It happens to most of us.

I think literally everyone who runs a ro unit has done that. Just don't let your wife find it next time.
