I have a 110 gallon tank 48x24x24. I currently have a 3ch pacific sun Hyperion R1. It is an older LED fixture that does fine on soft coral but I am looking to move to some SPS hard coral that need more lighting. I have looked at Kessil Ap 700 and the Ecotec XR30w G4. I could get away with one Kessil but would need 2 ecotec's. I like the way the Ecotec's are mounted. Are their any others the you would recommend? I want to stick to LED only no T5 or MH.

If you got the money.
Import 2 of the Philips "Coral Care" units.

Oy, they should just stop advertising those here. US car companies don't advertise that their cars that get better gas mileage in the rest of the world. Philips Please.

lol,
My wife  would shot me!
They'd remind her of seeing the old MH fixtures dangling in the den.

Not having luck finding any stats on the light you mentioned. Can you post some details?

It's pretty much a myth that hard corals require more light, so I'd feel free to get started if you like the light you have.

Clams could require quite a bit more light....and there are some corals that will be colored differently in higher vs lower light. Tyree's Ponape Bird's Nest is a good example of this.

I run two 36" tanks on my system. Both are predominantly stony coral and the system is going on ten years. One tank gets about 14,000 lux (which is pretty low) and the other tank gets about 50,000 lux. I have never had a problem with stony corals in either tank.

I'd pick the AP700 if you upgrade anyway. ;)

Lots of other great options out there too if you look at the suggestions so far. :) Even cheap DIY like my low-light tank....super easy to build. No fancy features though.

@mcarroll
Would you recommend one or two AP700's over a 48" wide tank?

I'm an old Kessil user but never ran the AP700's.

Thanks, GoVols

This is for a school tank and getting 220 installed takes an act of congress...
You got that right!

Stick with salftyfilmfolks and mcarroll their both reef lighting guru's!

Yea I saw that one but I would have to have 220 as US is one of the only ones that use 110v. This is for a school tank and getting 220 installed takes an act of congress...
Transformer. Also its an LED. Its DC. there's a 220v to 36v in the fixture.

Also 2 16in wfwi Sbreeflights would make you happy, come in under budget, grow coral.
1 Ap700 would do that tank too.
