Illumagic blaze-X vs Radion G4pro

Good evening everyone,

Wanted to see if there is anyone that has actual experience between the two? I know Radion is the tried and true with tons of info in the LED world. Illumagic blaze-X though, I've found less than a few videos and a few opinions, that seem really promising, but are still leaving me wanting more.

Reason I'm asking. I've recently ordered a new tank from Waterbox a few weeks ago, that I hope to have in a month or so (per their expected ETA). I'm now putting together the rest of the equipment. I find myself being drawn to the illumagic from what I have seen so far, but dropping $1,200-$1,700 on this alone without the history of information is leaving me second guessing if I'm making the right investment. Any info or opinions would be appreciated.

There are a few video reviews on YT. Haven’t viewed them myself but perhaps they’ll help. Nice thing about radions though is they have a lot of units in the field and the company’s pretty stable. An under appreciated thing in today’s world of vertex and mindstream.

The Illumagic lights seem to have some solid reviews. I went Radion just in case I need a component or replacement on the fly I can run to the LFS and grab it.

Very good points that there is an abundance of use here in the states for Radions.

Guessing there still isn't a lot to based off of. Hope to find unbiased input from someone had experience using both.

Illumagic LEDs?

Now the new G5 is really putting ideas in my head. My WB frag 105.4 just showed up three days ago. Any more recent recommendations?

Two G5 with arms will cost about $2,000, the blaze x will be about $1,300 with mounts. I can even get two vitamini add on strips and be under the cost of the G5 package.

So I started with radion, or illumagic as my plan. I went option C and bought a Orphek, returned it after being unhappy with the quality.

Now back to the decision between radion and illumagic. Any recent feedback would be appreciated.

No contest to be honest. I would 100% go with the radions. I've used both and I think the colours and brightness is so much better on the gen4s. I know some people who have started off with the illumagics (because its cheaper), but then switch to radions down the line. Might as well buy the expensive light now, rather than forking it out down the road.

I have owned both the xr30 G4 Pro, and currently own the blaze x fixture. I have to say the illumagic covers waaaaaaaay more. It's like T5. So if you want growth and a little more on the blue and uv spectrum go with the illumagic. If you want proven spectrum like the Ab+ go with radions. Either will grow coral. One is just more prepared to grow an Acro dominated tanka nd that's what I have.

What was wrong with the Orphek that made you return it right off the bat? Aside from the diode and board issues I've seen, the Orphek looks pretty nice out of the box.
Have you looked into the Reefi Duo Extremes? They look like an amazing LED option.

I spent hours on the app that kept crashing, the external wifi link box was finicky, and had to keep getting plugged into my router directly to operate the light, the wifi kept disconnecting when unplugged. Then when I noticed the two diodes were bad (confirmed after return by BRS).

The light was strong as anything, I'll give it that, was giving me sunburn after a few minutes. The problems and frustration quickly outweighed the benefits.

Keen to hear from anyone using Illumagic Blaze as well. Im in the middle of deciding light for my 50g cube. Reefi duo are extremely well made and seem to be good light, but price, as well as local support, losing to Illumagic since I'm in AUS. I would take Reefi duo over Radion anytime just purely based on that bad reps of the G5 up until now. However, Reefi and Illumagic? not sure

Following along. I haven’t heard much on the illumagic, and I’d like to see more about it.
I was curious though on the orphek.You mentioned the gateway wouldn’t work when you disconnected it from your router. As far as I know the Gen 2 gateway is hardwired. It has to stay connected to the router at all times to serve as a gateway to your lights. And also you mentioned two diodes were out. By any chance was it the two 850nm red diodes on channel 4? If so those diodes’ wavelength are considered “semi-covert” and nearly invisible to our eyes. Just curious.
