IM A NOOB TO R2R

Welcome to R2R! It's great to have you!

Are you using the Hanna calcium checker to get that number? If so, I would verify it with another test kit. My Hanna calcium checker used to consistently give me readings about 150-200 ppm higher than what my calcium actually was. It just seems strange to me that alk has dropped so much but calc is rising rapidly.

*Welcome to Reef2Reef @RookieReef !* Sorry for your troubles.May I ask what product you are adding to the tank to increase alkalinity? You may just need to do water changes to correct calcium that high.

do a big water change. I would get on the lights asap...they do make a difference and will cause several issues if they are old bulbs. When Alk drops below 7...calcium will stop being absorbed. That should explain the spike in cal. Likewise if Mag drops too low absorption across the board becomes a problem. Different corals drink different nutrients. As you add stuff to your tank, the dosing levels will need to be adjusted.

Do the water change. Check parameters everyday to track fluctuations. You can then figure out how much chemical to add. Get new test kits!

My lights are brand new ai hydra hds, about 2 weeks old [emoji23] did a big water change and I've been dosing recently. My Params are coming to a more stable place now. I never really tested or dosed before but I've learned if you want to have an optimal tank, the parameters need to be on point. Testing almost everyday, dosing when necessary.

Yes I am using a Hanna checker, I also have the Red Sea test kit and it's usually pretty close to each other but I'll keep an eye out
