I'm Back After 12 Years!

1 welcome.jpg

Hi, Joe! :)

Hello, everyone. My name is Joe, I'm 26, and finally re-entering the hobby after 12 years. I had many tanks growing up (many were unsuccessful) and I pretty much did not know what I was doing. I didn't put in the time or effort I should've as a young teen to maintain the health of the tank and often lost livestock as a result which discouraged me from continuing. Plus, my parents weren't thrilled having something routinely die off. But, now that it's my money on the line, I suppose there's incentive to do better this time. So far, so good!

I setup a 150 gallon mixed reef in July. Slowly added hardy fish for the first few weeks and then started adding coral at 8 weeks. Just got done adding some LPS and a large Ritteri Anemone this past week. Also finally got an ATO, which has made life sssooo much easier. Here's what I got running:

Tank: Marineland 150g (48" x 24" x 31")
Sump: Pro Clear Aquatic Systems 45g w/ x3 filter socks + custom refugium (chaeto)
Skimmer: Reef Octopus Classic 150INT
Lighting: x3 Vipar Spectra 165w units w/ lenses removed + x1 Fluval Marine LED 3.0 (for color)
Flow: x2 Hydor Koralia Evolutions 1500gph facing each other
ATO: DIGITen in a 5g reservoir

Welcome!!

Welcome!!! Sweet little setup you have there! Great open aquascape and it almost seems like that spot in the house was made for the tank. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thanks! Yah it worked out real nice. It's on the second floor of the house in my room in a nook area that hangs over the exterior wall of the garage. I reinforced the floor with two jack posts below in the garage just to be extra sure the floor would hold. It was already resting directly on top of the house's exterior wall below and on multiple perpendicular joists but you can't be too cautious. Lol

Wow that looks great! Love the rock scape and the additions!

My parents are the same way (constantly ask me if anything has died recently) due to the many deaths in FW when I was keeping fish at a young age. I clearly had no idea what I was doing. I remember thinking the conditioner was their "water" so I gave them some conditioner daily for a few weeks before the goldfish couldn't handle it anymore. I am better now... :p

Welcome to R2R and happy reefing!
