I've had my 250 gal tank for a year now and have battled algea for about 7 months of that year. I've tried everything from weekly water changes to every day filter sock changes. I've purchased a uv steralizer and can't find the desire to use it. I have kessil 360 tuna blue lighting set at 40 percent intensity in a 3 ft deep tank. My nitrate level is between 0 and 5 And other levels are normal. Does anyone know if changing the light setting would help before I give up and just take the tank down?

It's difficult to tell what your problems could be....could you give more information? What's your clean up crew like? What are your Phosphates at? What filtration do you have running. Your light isn't too strong, I run mine at 95% for 8 hours a day in a 40 gallon. Pictures?

I just cleaned it but will post pics in a day or 2. It usually takes about 4 days for algea to start showing itself. I didn't write down the numbers but will also post them by tomorrow.
That will really help

Ok, let's start with a change of assumption.

On most tanks I have owned, I have to clean the glass from algae growth about twice a week. It may be a bit unrealistic to be thinking there will be no algae growth on the glass.

It most good tanks there will be some type of algae growth. The types that are harder to deal with are Green Hair Algae and Bubble Algae.

If glass algae is your issue, then congratulations on having a great tank. Enjoy the maintenance of glass cleaning.

So your just talking about on the glass? Not on the rocks and sand bed?

If it's just the glass, welcome to the club of having a good tank. That's normal. I clean my glass every 2 days.

I also know when people dose h2o2 I to their tank at 1ml per 10gallons it helps to reduce this as well as increase o2 levels within the aquarium.

Poor quality pic. Not much I can do About that. Ours green hair algea causing water to smell.
I didn't see any hair algae in the picture. Maybe bc of the focus. If you turn off the blue light and take a pic with your flash itll help expose what your referring to.

And algae wont make the water smell.... what does it smell like? Sulfur? What do you have in the tank for water flow?
A FTS would also help..

Also in your parameters... what's the 143.2?
What's your alkalinity? Magnesium levels?
What salt do you use?

Phosphates could be lower. Some chato would help slow in tank algae. If the algae comes back rely fast and you are testing nitrate and phosphate the readings could be off because of the algae consuming faster you can test for real amount. How often do you do water changes and percent of water changed. I feel like increased water changes might help. Frequency of changing water or increasing the volum of water you change might help.

143.2 is calcium. I use reef crystals. My kit doesn't test for mag. I have a big Janie power head. I have a sump system with dual socks and a bubble Magnus protein skimmer.
